Guess this answers the question whether this is a common practice or not.

The way Lemon spoke afterwards in his interview...his speech was such a disorganized uneducated mess that I think the Steelers thought they better call an hour before the pick because it would take that long to communicate in English with him.

    It is possible.

Would be adding salt to the supposed black eye the team when trying to get him.

I would imagine a draft pick + financial fine if this is to be the case.

I don’t get it…so they can contact the agent, but not the player, if the team is not on the clock?

They can contact the player so long as they dont interfere with a team that is on the clock that is trying to contact them.

Unfortunately there is rock solid evidence the Steelers were talking to him and Philly couldnt reach him.

There is rock solid evidence that the eagles reached him, despite the steelers talking to him

I would argue the Steelers were already disciplined.

The Cowboys and Eagles put BTA (kid slang for belt to a$$) on national television, in the Steelers own backyard, on one of the biggest football days in Pittsburgh football history.

    Natural consequences are the harshest.

but how would you know if you are interfering or not?

they were already talking to him, and this happened in a matter of seconds?

Yea, the rule is a little odd. What if you were talking to a guy that wasn't projected going until a round later and some team decides to reach for him? The rule should be no contact until you are on the clock. Period.

There's no wriggling out of this via pendantry, Khan made a complete mess of this and total ass of himself.

Not sure how this answers the question on whether it's common.

The fact that they have a rule saying that you can do this must mean it's not the first time it's happened, right? Maybe that's the point you're making?

My guess is that there will be no discipline to the team for doing this thing that the rule seems to say we're allowed to do.

I can see how this would have been a much bigger deal in the 90s before call waiting.

Before that video came out Howie had said we couldnt get a hold of him for a little bit which was odd but happens sometimes. He didn’t allude to the Steelers being on the phone with them. Just said we couldnt reach him.

As Tomlin would have said, "Khan painted himself into a red corner with the leftover barn paint.

That was an embarrassment. As long as any penalty in terms of lost draft picks is late Day 3, the embarrassment is worse than the formal punishment.

I agree. How would the Steelers know which player the eagles were going to contact so the Steelers could stay off his phone.

Just think if the Steelers had handled business like a normal team, they would have selected Max and we’d never know that Lemon was their guy. The usual stories would have come out later that Steelers liked Lemon better but would have been written off as normal after draft chatter.

Just shows you how much of what teams say is lip service after making a pick. They’re up there saying how they got their guy, yeah, you got A guy you were high on but not the guy you were going to take.
