We need guys to return both punts and kicks.

Seems like he'll make the team and at least be a starting kick returner. Probably punts too.

IMO that's not bad for a 4th rounder.

I doubt he sees many targets...this year at least.

Ok, so I haven't said squat about any draft picks to this point because clearly some of you are the smartest men on the planet but let me tell you a story.

As some of you may know, my family are season ticket holders to the Iowa Hawkeyes. We were at the game against Michigan State and they were punting from their own end. Maybe the ten or fifteen yard line. Right when the punter kicked it, I said to my wife "he's returning this one". And he did.

This kid is electric. Cooper Dejean was a better all around athlete but this dude is a better returner. Every f**king time he touches the ball he makes something happen. Maybe it's a wasted pick. Who knows but if he can at the very least change field position then as a 4th round pick he's absolutely worth it

Must have been the black and gold uniform in his highlights that screamed "Steeler!!" to Kahn....

Nice to have inside info! Thanks.

It would be great if we could have good returns. Seems like something we've been missing for a while (since AB?)

Is Mike McCarthy a good guitar player?

Yeah, there's thirteen hundred and fifty-two Guitar cases in Nashville
And any one that unpacks his guitar could play Twice as better than Mike McCarthy will

Cobb was a heckuva a return guy early in his career. Then he grew from a gadget role to critical cog on offense.

I don’t know if Mike plays guitar, but I do know Kayden Wetjen is the best return man in college football. He could plug the leaks in the Steelers abysmal, bottom-of-the-barrel return unit and possibly even win us a few games. That is worth a 4th imo

There were better prospects at almost every slot we picked at if you look at the board, too many were taken too early.

12 picks and they came away with 1 player who wasn't a reach or developmental, or both.

This kid is electric with the ball in his hands. He's one of those guys that just looks like he is going to return every kick for a touchdown! We already know what he can do in the return game. Now let's see if he can improve his receiving skills while the coaching staff finds ways to put him in position to make plays on WR screens and get creative with how they can get the ball into his hands in space.

    From The Athletic:

    "Steelers: Most surprising pick
The departures of Calvin Austin III and Kenneth Gainwell in free agency left the Steelers looking for a returner. But to spend a fourth-round pick on return specialist Kaden Wetjen? That feels like a luxury, even with the new kick-return rules making the position more valuable than ever. The Steelers also could have taken UConn’s Skyler Bell, who is a good punt returner and has much higher upside on offense. Maybe we’ll feel differently about this pick if Wetjen is housing punts and kicks to push the Steelers into the playoffs, or if the Steelers find a role for him as a gadget guy/slot receiver in Mike McCarthy’s offense. For now, a player who got a sixth-round grade from Brugler, and was perhaps not expecting to be taken that early (he was on the golf course when he got the call from the Steelers), feels like a bit of a reach at this spot."

IF MM had a hand in this pick; this is what he's hoping to recreate: https://www.nfl.com/prospects/randall-cobb/3200434f-4236-5535-cf6f-4337b5dff0b3

Similar size and speed measurables. Same 'tweener issues on offense.

I don't know much about Swiffer Wetjet but Cobb spent his first two seasons as a dynamic return specialist then grew into an actual role on offense.

Not predicting anything for this kid. Just saying if MM influenced the selection; this is likely why.

Two things really stand out to me that I think separates him from most fast/quick returners. 1. Vision - he sees the movement of the defenders and blockers and has an instinctive knack of finding the path of least resistance in a split second. 2. Decisiveness - he dances around laterally a lot less than most returners. He is heading forward as soon as there is a crease, so in addition to the big plays he’s also consistently adding positive yards that add up to better field position. Here’s a few returns and offensive snaps.

I was really surprised to see us take him in the 4th, but I’m happy to get him. He was a player that I have coveted since the Shrine Bowl practices. I have no idea whether the Steelers had some indication of other teams’ interest that made them decide to move early, or maybe he was just legitimately the BPA at that point on their board. I had drafted him numerous times with pick #216 in the various online draft simulators. Would he have been available after the 4th for us? We’ll never know.
