No Ben didn't have anything to do with him being drafted Ben said he doesn't even know him personally. The Steelers were looking for a productive young QB to groom we all saw how having 2 old backups worked out last season, Batch beat the Ravens but it was time to move on.

this is a comment i found in another forum , that sum it up what me and a lot of people are thinking

Nope. I don't expect Pouncey to play all 64 games either. Should we have taken a C in Rd 4?

There are 2 reasons to draft a QB
1 your current starter sucks or is old. You need a replacement.
2 you are happy with your starter and want a young QB to develop and be a backup.

Steelers are in category 2 and round 4 is a steep price in a draft where QBs were falling like rocks.

Would you rather have Landry Jones or a potential starting ILB like Khaseem Green or Gerald Hodges who both went in the 4 th after jones, or a WR like Quinton Patton? Give me any of them plus Zac Dysert or Sean Renfree in the 6th to be a backup.

Hell, I haven't seen this much dislike towards a young quarterback since the early Bradshaw days.
So, keep up the hate and Landry will probably be great.

While your hating, you might also want to ask yourselves ... what are the odds that Justin Brown would be here without the Steelers looking at film on Landry Jones? ;)

No, I was comparing all of the hate both were/are subjected to.

Only 2 years for Jones? Remember, it took Bradshaw ~4 years to finally win the starting job and he was a #1 overall draft pick, not a measly 4th rounder. LOL ;)

I am personally rooting for Landry Jones because I think he's probably a really good dude off the field and we need some POSITIVE press off the field and I don't look for him to be wearing a hat wanting a thug to be "freed" or playing real life GTA in downtown Pittsburgh or slapping his girlfriend in the face or having drunken sex in a bathroom or whatever other stupid thing we've managed to do here in the last few years.

I like it and he will only get better. they will fix him and add things he wasn't used to doing, he's got talent. i'm more worried about grad then him right now. he looks antsy out there at times.

But here's a question for you. Do we have the next franchise qb on the roster or do you think we have a career backup?

who cares at this point? if he does good for us and if he's a backup, he's our backup and we will always need one. ben ain't done yet. we have time in a couple of years to pick another one. if he goes to #2 it wasn't a bad pick. I think he will do that. we have time.

Well if he did go on to become the franchise guy I think it would be cool that he paid his dues on the bench like guys used to do and maybe it would make him really appreciate the hard work and dedication it took to tough it out and then maybe it would keep us from winding up with an entitled diva ya know?

Did you get to watch him in game 2? He showed a lot of improvement and he throws a really nice deep ball. I'm not saying he's the next Ben. I'm just saying that he seems willing to work.

he improved a whole lot from game 1 to game 2. of course they let him play a lot more in the shotgun, where he is more familiar. people don't realize or take into account he wasn't an under center type qb at Oklahoma. he has to learn that. it's not something that's taught in a couple of weeks. nobody knows yet how this kid will turn out a couple of years from now, and I don't believe they drafted him to be the next coming.

Definitely too early to tell what we have in Landry Jones. If he develops he could be trade bait down the road. I think Ben has at least 5 years left so I don't see Jones hanging around that long. Now, if Ben suddenly falls down in production, then we can see what he has. Jones has a good opportunity to sit behind Ben and Gradkowski and learn. Maybe like Aaron Rodgers did in Green Bay.

This pick just blew me away. Never ever thought we would take a QB this draft (after signing Grad). Like the kid just dont see him playing much next 3-4 seasons.Trade bait after a season or two?........Let see how he works out....I could be wrong..........
