i know this isnt a new topic, but its really starting to be apparent that this coaching staff as a whole isnt very good.

they went 8-8 last year and they were a bad 8-8. they made the playoffs the year before but got knocked out in the 1st round by Tebow.

we all sit here and complain about how many mistakes this team makes with the penalties, the turnovers and the lack of big plays from the defense. i know the coaches dont play on sundays, but its their job to make sure the players are ready and in the best positions to make plays with few errors. we keep seeing the same mistakes over and over. thats a lack of good coaching.

i DO like Tomlin, but im starting to think that hes not the right guy for this job. sure he has a super bowl ring, but most would argue he did it with Cowhers guys. DL has been a great coach, but his complete lack of making in game changes has killed this team. we watch them make mistakes in the 1st half and then they make the same mistakes in the 2nd half. we watch the other team make plays in the 1st half and then they keep making those same plays in the 2nd half. this coaching staff is one of the worst at making changes that actually work during a game that i have seen.

the talent is there. they have guys a wr that can fly, but they never seem to get open. why? they have decent rbs, but they never seem to have big games. why? is Haleys system that bad? i know most of that falls on the oline, but its not like they have the worst bunch of olineman. it just seems like they are never in good position. Ben is Ben, but hes not getting any younger. the Pats are a great example of a team that plays under a system that works. Brady lost his top 4 receivers and they havent skipped a beat in the preseason. they dont have the best oline, but they call plays that best fit their talent.

Tomlin, DL and Haley all seem to be watching another team. its like they dont know their own players and their strengths.

another example of bad coaching to me is all the injuries. i know you cant control injuries, but you can try and limit them. we all complain about this teams physical conditioning. here we are 2 games into the preseason and the injury bug is already hitting them hard.

ive been a Steelers fan for a long time. since the 70's and i know how the Rooney's do business, but if this team misses the playoffs again this year and they are a .500 team than they have to make serious changes and right now the way this team looks they will be lucky to be that good.

i know this is a rant and i know as Steeler fans we are spoiled, but we did have a 25 year span there were they werent a super bowl team. that was simply because they never had the right qb. now they have a proven super bowl winning qb and they have talent around him, but in my opinion that talent is being wasted on a bad coaching staff. i hope they prove me wrong, but i think we know what we are getting from this staff.

This season will tell alot about this coaching staff and Tomlin in particular to me.

I'm still waiting for him to "Unleash Hell" especially since I have never seen him do it in his past.

ST's coach has his unit in shambles with penalties and mistakes.

Wow, disagree with every thing you said and since all the counter arguments have already been made to the things you've said, I won't bother and just say, 2 preseason games has you feeling this way???

You guys really need to get grip. The sad thing is, we will probably get off to a slow start, this place is going to be a real drag to be around.

Sorry, but feeling Tomlin isn't a great coach is not a knee jerk reaction to these 2 preseason games to me. I've felt this way for a few seasons now.

I really wish him the best as it results in a successful team but too many times his game plans and preparations (or lack there of) just do not impress me very much.

    Again, I hope I'm wrong.

Bill Cowher lost 4 AFC championship games at home with his own players and missed the playoffs 3 straight seasons 1998-2000. Tomlin won't be in trouble even if they have a bad season. The Steelers don't make knee jerk decisions on coaches.

Time will tell. A lot of the things you said, I was thinking about Cowher 1999-2000 and again in 2003.

2 preseason games? are you discounting last year completely? or how they got bounced in a playoff game lead by a Tim Tebow team? no this is not based on 2 preseason games. although they have been absolutely horribly played and coached preseason games.

The only time I hear anything bad about Tomlin is on this message board. Today on ESPN, an ex player was filling in for Stephen A and he was asked about the Steelers chances, he said you can never count out the Steelers especially one led by Tomlin. I just laughed because I immediately thought, "you should spend 5 minutes on the Steelersfans message board."

I've never heard one talking head, former player or otherwise doubt Tomlin as a coach.

So then why not wait and see how they do this season? They haven't played a single game yet.

Nothing ESPN says on any given day really holds water. Just a bunch of talking heads spewing meaningless opinions.

Kind of like here but they get paid pretty well to do it.

Actually they remind me alot of the shows America's got talent, American Idol and the X Factor.

DL has and continues to keep this team competitive. Nothing he does kills this team. He puts the team in position to win nearly every week. The lack of scoring is our problem.

Jesus I'm glad this board wasn't around when Cowher had three straight losing season I probably would have clicked closed and never came back

In the Giants game you are 100% correct and I was one of 1st to complain. But I didn't see where they did much at all wrong in the 2nd game, did you?

I just hope that our offense, particularly the O-line, can make a turnaround as good as the Speical Teams did.

What's funny about that statement though is that there probably would have been people acting like it wasn't the fact that we were missing a qb that was hurting us. They would've been pulling out obscure stats like "you don't need an elite qb to win a super bowl! just look at Dilfer!" and then that would've been their only stat to support that but they would repeat it over and over. LOL. I don't mind extremely contrarian points of view. I just ignore them. I mean if I gambled I would bet you money that SOMEwhere there was a Steelers fan that would've argued that we needed to put Tommy Maddox back in after his injury and bench Ben. I mean it just takes all kinds ya know?

Yeah but most of us kept just quiet, once we saw Ben was more mobile and could take a hit. I don't recall the O-line being all that great back then either. LOL :lolol:

LOL. I would kill for a bunch of Allen Fanneca's right about now! As a matter of fact, I would just cut Ramon Foster right now and bring back Fanneca and we would instantly be better!

I seriously heard the guy that hosts "The Herd" yesterday talking about how Dennis Dixon would be a good Eagles qb for the spread offense if not for the fact that he's a backup in Pittsburgh! I was screaming at the radio! LOL.

I hated to see Fanneca leave. Also, I have to fess-up & admit that earlier today I looked for, found, and watched the video of Bell's injury, just so I wouldn't falsely blame Gilbert. LOL :lolol:

Well just because Gilbert didn't fall on him doesn't mean he isn't to blame. We can still claim that he was out of position and who can disprove that!? HA!

Just to cherrypick a part of this that irritates me...

Anyone claiming Dick LeBeau is responsible for this team not winning anything has no credibility. The defense played worse than the offense in one, maybe two games last year. And even in those games the offense was not without fault. I'm tired of hearing, "Oh sure, the defense didn't allow any yards or points, but where are the sacks and turnovers???" Um, who cares? They didn't allow yards or points. The offense shouldn't be dependant on the defense to set them up on the 5 yard line. I don't understand how that's their problem. Turnovers are a bonus. If our offense can't outscore the other team's offense - especially when our defense plays as well as it has since Dick LeBeau got here (and still is) - then we deserve to lose. Just make sure you keep DLB out of the blame game.

But yeah, he's too old, the game has passed him by, he can't make adjustments, he can't produce turnovers, blah blah blah.

Well, he would have had to be in Washington's secondary and wearing a Redskin jersey, so that pretty much clears Gilbert.

Well if Gilbert is managing to properly dress himself maybe there is hope after all! LOL!
