Schefty just said out 6 weeks with a sprained foot and surgery not ruled out yet? So, that's where we are

    yippeeee!

The guy never misses a game or practice in college and has 3 injuries in two weeks as a Steeler. Rooney needs to hire an exorcist.

Not to be a Negative Nanny or anything, but don't these types of injuries tend to linger?

I'm a little curious about this one. I've seen this progress throughout the day, and the top guys reporting on this seem to be sharing the same speculative source (Schefter, Glazer, LaCanfora). Maybe that's part of the reason the team has been taking their time with the diagnosis. I'm inclined to believe that 6 weeks is on the hopeful side.

Nothing has been confirmed yet people...don't get all excited making new threads every time something new comes out claiming this or that is the injury, haha. I've still seen reports by some saying Lisfranc (but not the the severity of requiring surgery), some saying other stuff...thats why they are supposedly getting additional opinions. I'll wait until the team announces something more official...

No matter what the end result is...its unfortunate. The kid was solid/durable/etc in college...and in his first game this happens (I'm not counting a bruised knee/etc as a big deal/injury). But I guess it could be worse. Hoping for the best but we'll see. Hopefully Dwyer can continue to improve from his game the other day...as he could be the starter (though knowing them they'd have Redman start).

Dang it, and to even have it happen on a pass play none the less.

It's not a lingering type injury.

The odd thing is, this must be the mildest case ever. So, this must be where the hesitation and 2nd opinion is coming from. I say this because in all other cases I've ever heard of, the initial diagnosis is immediately followed by surgery.

Does anyone know of a case out there where surgery was not needed for a lisfranc?

There might be, but all the lisfranc injuries that I can think of in the NFL ended up needing surgery. Not to say that Bell will, of course.

Maybe we'll get lucky (for a change) and Bell's injury won't be as severe as to need surgery. It just looked like the Washington guy just stepped on Bell's heel, it's not like the whole foot was bent backwards.

Yes, my wife had a lis franc foot injury in July. She did not need surgery. shae was told that since the breaks were 'clean' no surgery (meaning insertion of screws) was required. But she is 7 weeks into this and can't really bu aLot of weight on the injured foot. 5 Weeks after she still had bruises all the way around the circumference of her instep, nasty looking purple ones.

That sounds like she broke her arch.. I think surgery for a mid-foot sprain (not break) would be ligament repair.. Not sure but I think your wife had the worst case lis franc.

This might work out for us. Who wants our RB of the future running behind that line we have now?

There used to be a guy posting ( might have been the old Steeler forum) who really knew this sort of stuff, seemed very educated in anatomy/physiology. Can't recall his handle.

Sound like you have some medical background, I don't. The wife didnt need any ligament repair. Don't know if she broke her arch, but yes, it seems that way to me. Worst case or not, we just were happy that they didn't have to fix ligaments or put in screws. But she's a good month away from driving or having even the remotest similar to normal mobility.

So, if it is longer than 6 weeks. Do they IR him? If so, does that mean bye bye for Spaeth? Is Batch still gone?

So... wasn't the reason we drafted him instead of the guy that went to GB (can't remember names), was injuries?
