Steelers' draft strategy

    They have 12 picks and they don't need to draft 12 rookies because not all of them are going to make the team.

    I don't know about that. The roster has a lot of "dead wood" on it that needs cut away.

    I say they make maybe 9-10 picks at the most. They need another draft like they had in 2023 and get contributions from like 5 guys.

    My vote goes to Allar. Younger, stronger in both core and functional strength in terms of being tough to take down and very much ascending. He is worth a roll of the dice.

    I can go either way. Use all the picks because they arent going to hit on all of them so maximize your chances of finding as many as possible that will make it or move up and get better talent.

    Probably a combination of both. 9 picks would still be good and add another 2nd rd pick to it. Id be good with that.

    depends on how they go. they are not giving up much with their 30 visits really. they had a pro day dinner with zacharia branch. they went to georgia's pro day. they have had more wr's in for visits than any other position but very few first rounders. smoke and mirrors? is branch a first rounder? i know he's close. are they going to move back in the 1st?

    where i wanted them to move back into the second by giving up a 3rd and 4th, i now get a feeling they may move down and get even more 2nd and 3rd round picks and still getting who they want in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th. the rest of the draft could be trade bait for next year if they find a partner.

    i have stated on here before that most of the draft guru's have only ranked 9 of the top guys as first rounders this year. that is down from most years. could we be using that and moving back into what may be the sweet spot in this draft and cleaning up?

    could we end up looking like:

    that would be like 9-10 before the 5th round. probably way more than we need to draft or could fit. :cool:

    Denver doesn't have a day one pick. They hold the number 62 in the 2nd round and then not again until rd.4. Maybe a next year 1st? :cool:

    i keep messing around with the draft simulators and keep going with a trade down in the first and making some moves that end up with multiple second and thirds. often gaining a pick or two in next years draft in doing so. the more i do that the more i like the idea of it.

    Or we ship Queen to them and draft Trotter at their 62 pick and throw in a late pick so we offload queen's salary.

    Hearing speculation that there could be a record number of trades. It's not an especially talented class. Would guess moving down would be more popular.

    I’d be happy hearing his name called Thursday night.

    My preference is Vega but Lemon is right there.

    Are the Steelers and have the Steelers been struggling to find ILB? Is that a priority?

    I'd rather have Omar Cooper Jr if Wideout was an option personally. Lemon to me is slot only. If that is the endgame for which the Steelers are going for, that is fine. However, given how flexible Mike McCarthy is when it comes to how he wants to align Receivers, Lemon doesn't really fit this bill imo.


    I do agree that Vega is very much worth the trade up. Guards like him don't come around very often. For that matter, I wouldn't be shocked if Vega is selected by the Titans. That team needs Guard help a lot more than others are willing to accept.

    If Lemon is slot only, then why did they bring him in for a visit. Obviously, McCarthy thinks Lemon can fit in his offense.

    Why bring him in?! Very good Slot WR's are worth that much for there are not enough of them. McCarthy brought him in as he, like the Steelers, are exploring and exhausting all options.


    I never stated Makai Lemon isn't a great Slot WR option. Makai's issue, for me, in this class is that there are other WR's who are just as slot capable while being more versatile. Omar Cooper Jr and doubly so in K.C. Concepcion both have Wide Receiver One potential even though both will have to start out their career's in the slot. I don't see that same potential with Lemon.
