This type of play certainly isn't Patrick Queen we need to draft a ILB who can play downhill.

So… I guess it’s not helpful that his play has gone downhill.

Could be misremembering but thought I read the league played a record number of snaps in the nickel last season.

One thing of note is how important communication is as an ILB in the Nickel. People tend to forget that there are a lot of moving parts in both personnel and schematic changes pre snap. Having a ILB who is capable of doing so both consistently and proficiently is key.

Going to sound a bit crazy but should the board not break Pittsburgh's way, CJ Allen could be in play for Pick 21. He is the drafts best Defensive QB and is quite good at stopping the run. He would fit Patrick Grahams mold of what he wants from both a rock solid player and the central hub of communications to the tee.

I find the recent comments to be both refreshing and accurate. It is clear to me that we have significantly upgraded over DC Austin.

The departures of Canada, Austin, and the former offensive line coach ( I forget his name already ) mark a necessary change. It seemed that Tomlin previously surrounded himself with "yes men" who took the blame for various failings. Despite the talent on the roster from 2018 to 2025, the team consistently underachieved relative to its playoff record.

With those coaches gone and Tomlin having moved on with a siged contact ..A.K.A he quit, I believe fans will be pleasantly surprised by the Steelers' performance moving forward. Good riddance to the old staff.

    Yawn.

The Steelers have wanted to play more nickel since forever now.

How many consecutive years has it been they tout a “big nickel” or “3 safety” package? Five? More?

They’ve either failed to procure the talent to run it; the talent got hurt; or the other team ran it off the field.

The other team gets a vote.

The defense has underperformed so much in the last 5 years, it needs to change...Austin was just awful, too vanilla. The opponent was making our pass rush disappear with so many quick passes, and Austin didn't know what to do about it.It was pathetic to watch

Don't expect Graham to be able to fix it.

How is it a clear upgrade, this guy was coaching the Raiders last season. I'm no Austin fan but we need to see what this guy does first before we start calling him an upgrade, right now he is just a new face.

The versatile themes is a common one that we heard each year. Maybe jack of all trades master of none isn’t the way to go.

Maybe draft guys that excel at their position, Im not even being snarky, just thinking out loud. Get guys that are great at what they do and design the defense around that instead of hey I got this guy that can do xyz but really doesn’t excel at any of them but allows us to do all these looks which ends up not being very effective.

    Could be is key.

Not a guarantee. Remember that the team did attend Georgia's Pro Day. I doubt it was for CJ Allen alone but he is an option.

I do like the idea of being more creative on defense / trying to do more fire zone type stuff.

Seems like that wasn't really Tomlin's think. Got phased out under Butler and maybe all but eliminated after. Except when Flores was here and he brought in some more creative blitz type stuff.

But (1) saying it isn't doing it and (2) I'm not out there reviewing tape to see if the things I think (above) are actually true.

I think it's hard to judge a coach when they have **** players.

Hopefully, some change will help the D.

We've heard for years on end how we seem to be easy to prepare for because we run the same few plays with the same terminology...except when Flores was here. Then guys like Alex at the Depot would be doing breakdowns every week about the new wrinkles / tweaks to the D.

    Tomlin retired

    He didn’t quit

People under contract are allowed to retire

Your first two paragraphs made sense though

Two out of 3 ain’t bad
