High -- Jarvis; honorable mention for Dwyer until he put the ball on the ground

Lows -- Gilbert is awful. ben will not last the season. Willie Gay. Tomlin continues to not fix the simple mistakes. Realization that a 7-9 season is very realistic.

I think when I turned the game off, I said something to the effect of: "Are we making Rex Grossman look good?!? We are, aren't we? Grossman looks like a rock star!". *click*

Not for nothin', but Rex is usually great in meaningless games. It's when the title's on the line that he majorly sucks.

I just remember all the years I spent in Chicago (as a Steeler fan, of course, but the TV was dominated by the Bears) and each week it was between Grossman and Orton for the starter. Sad thing is it was based not on who was better, but who had sucked less during their time in the game the previous week. I have memories of all my Bear's fan friends watching every game with their faces buried in their hands. Guess it biased me a bit on both of them. :)

    Geez, the o-line is terrible.
Can't they find someone off the street to play RT?
    How bad was Max?

Depending on Bell's injury, everything else looks OK, if you know what pre-season is about.

I think they're going to be shopping to fill the last OL spot on the 53. From what I've seen, it's hard to imagine he's on the roster right now.
It's about heavily game planning for your opponent, creating mismatches, getting deep into the playbook, making half time adjustments, having your starters give 110%, and winning at all costs. Right?

The other teams aren't gameplanning against us but they are executing what they're trying to do, not allowing their QB to get hit before he completes his drop and seem to be genuinely far ahead of us at the moment. Right now we suck.. Maybe the suckage will decrease in time but right now our team sucks.

I'm usually with you on this - and obviously nothing except injuries counts until Week 1.

    BUT

That's the same for every team.

So the question is: are the vanilla Redskins the best they have to give?

Brown is getting open... There were a couple of times last night where he was wiiiiide open and didn't get the ball. One time he was jumping up and down waving his hands.

Every pre-season you hear the fans of bad teams say, "Did you see the game, and what this guy did, etc., etc..".
And I have to tell them, 'fans of bad teams worry about the pre-season, they have to try and win to build confidence, the good teams are just practicing'.

Sure enough, their bad teams are bad when it counts, and though we worry/whine like heck, we're usually in the hunt.
(Man..., I'm worrying about the o-line, though whining won't help)

Man I can't say Jarvis is going to be a beast just yet. He has a ways to go.

One thing I give to him is he is always around the ball and has the propensity to make splash plays. I'm not sure how he does it though:

He is not quick (can't get around a tackle) and and not overly strong (struggled fighting off tight ends).

What I mean is: just as we know that we are playing a bit safer, a bit more vanilla, etc., we have to presume that every team has a lot more to show in regular season. Unless the Redskins were, in fact, playing their hearts out at full capacity last night and have nothing left to give.

When we add in all the gameplanning, strategy, fighting every yard stuff, and the rest of the NFL does to, will we see much of an improvement in how we shape up against other teams?

(And that's not a rhetorical question. At the moment I'm reluctant to judge either way...)

I'm not sure that a team coming off a poor season should take the preseason and training camp this lightly, and I don't think they are. I think that we are seeing what we will get in the regular season, because is there anything to suggest otherwise right now? I'm not sure.

You can't tell me that Starks, Colon, and Kemo isn't better than this group. I would love to have Starks back at Left Tackle and Colon at Right tackle right now.

Give this group some time, none of those other guys are athletic enough to do what we are trying to do now. I'm worried about Gilbert but I think the rest will get it together.
