Other than the fumble Dwyer is looking good tonight.

Agree. He looked like the fringe starter that he is.

Much better tonight. But whos going to show up from week to week? The guy who had a couple 100+ yard games last year or the guy who couldn't run the ball against 2nd and 3rd stringers last week?

He had flashes tonight. Things I liked and things I didn't but then again the whole team seemed that way. Moments they looked great and moments they looked horrible. I thought he did play desperate like a guy fighting for a job which is something I don't think you can say about him for the last few years

Like- the tempo and lets the line set there blocks and how he gets across the line going full speed.

Dont like -the before mentioned fumble and a few cuts he made he stopped running down hill and didnt finish the runs.

The screen pass/interception, yes Ben kinda telegraphed it but they should have had Dwyer chip Kerrigan and then move out to the flat to sell the screen. That should come up in film study. I agree some of the cuts are what frustrated me, one in particular where I think he had five or more yards had he stayed inside because Wheaton(I think it was) had his man block to the outside and gave him a clear lane to keep moving but Dwyer tried to cut outside behind the block and get to the sideline but was tackled by the DB. Had he stayed in the lane he picks up more yardage and then can move towards the sideline once he is passed the block.

Yes, that was the one. He was running soft on that play.

I also noticed multiple times where he wasn't really running north to south. Gruden kept talking about the receivers needing to go north to south but I'd say that goes for the backs as well.

dwyer looked OK,but still made bad cuts (the wrong side of blocks in the open field) and still not very good as a receiver. ( which is a big part of the offense).

Considering what he was running BEHIND, I agree that Dwyer was one of the only bright-ish spots tonight.

Did you see what he had to work with last week? There wasn't anywhere for him to go.

When are we going to see Redman? I believe he has only carried once so far. Does that mean he is polished and ready to go this season?

Well, here is an article where the writer seems to think Dwyer has his crap together...
    http://triblive.com/sports/-topstories/4557876-74/dwyer-bell-though#axzz2cYkenhpl
I dunno, I was pretty sold on keeping Redman, and letting Dwyer hit the road.
However, given his opportunities(that he only got because of injuries), he has seemed to make the most of them.
    Other than the fumble...
Has he made a case for being on the 53?
That`s a lotta backs to carry.
Bell, Redman, Dwyer, Howlings... Possibly Batch(personally, I think he is on his way out, but who knows what the coaches think/see).
If Bell DOES have the dreaded LisFranc foot injury, he may be put on the designated to return IR, or the season ending IR....
That would free up a spot, but put us back with who got us to 8-8 last year, which the coaches pointedly said they wanted to avoid.
Wow, what a mess, at the moment!
    GO STEELERS!

we do however have a better change of pace guy (LSH) with what we had last year. even if bell were to go IR. LSH is a better back then rainey.

trouble is we have nobody like LSH if he gets dinged, up behind him. bell, dwyer, redman are similar in their games. bell having a little more wiggle then the other two, but does it translate well to the new scheme? bell should have cut a couple of his runs back last night and didn't.
redman had two nice carries and we haven't seen him since. I think bell is a little wide eyed right now on the big stage.

dwyer did look better last night and I have to say in the run game and pass game a couple of backup o-linemen did pretty well.

MT seems to have a plan and many don't think he does, but he's putting certain situations on players to respond to.

beachum for example. he's practiced this week at RT ( where he's been a lot) center again (where they had him penciled to see some game action) but didn't. instead MT put him at LT, where he has had less reps, and the footwork is different, to adjust him to going to another spot at a moments notice. that's smart coaching. that get's beachum ready for the season.

malecki has been playing pretty well and did so again against the skins at center. he's had time at guard too. another guy we need good reps out of at some point.

he put that game on dwyer's shoulders last night.

he gave landry an oppourtunity to open up the passing game a little with the game within reach, building some confidence in the kid. he started out under center mostly then put him in the gun where he is more comfortable at this stage. all these things are to see if they are ready for primetime and he knows we may need them at some point in that capacity. you can add JJ and wheaton to the list.

these are the guys that are playing well right now, and that strengthens us overall. no not perfect but getting better each time out.

He's inconsistent, same MO last season and I'm a Dwyer fan. Looks really good one week and not so much the next. He seems to be on the right path though, working hard, hopefully he can change that.

    Hope you`re right Mac.
That is certainly a better way to look at it, than what I was seein from my point of view.
Maybe their actually IS some method to Tomlin`s madness...
    I can almost believe it...;)
If that`s the case, week ONE can`t ge here soon enough, `cause I don`t know if I can stand watching much more of this "process" we are goin thru to get there!!! LOL!!!
    GO STEELERS!:yeehaw:
