I have seen a few articles about how Colleges are mandating grades no lower than a C, so A, B, C today is like A/B, C, D/F of 30 years ago. The reason, college prices has SOARED to the stratosphere and College brass want to keep those forking over wheelbarrows full of cash happy, so dumbo kid that can barely read gets a B in English, or can barely do basic math gets a C in Calculus, etc.

So, its really hard to not laugh when parents boast about their kids' 3.4 GPA at Podunk U. That's probably the equivalent of 2.2 in my time and on probation/warning.

In high school, kids are getting 4.5 GPAs...college coarses and I can tell you they're not valedictorian material. Something is amiss in High School grading too, but it can't be money, well, it can, but not directly from the family this time, indirectly from taxpayers.
Just think... if Tomlin had a "losing season" or two.... he'd probably still be coaching.
Probably, he'd be on his third or fourth team as a retread.

The Dolphins or Jets would have just hired him and talked about getting an "All-time great" while he leads them to 15 wins in 3 years and moves on to his fifth team...though, mercifully, at the high school level in northwest North Dakota.

Yes, for advanced HS kids, but primarily a college course.

I took FIVE Calculus classes in college, Calc 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 and Differential Equations (this was a quarterly system). This was required to become an Electrical Engineer.

There is a shrinking pool of college applicants every year. Colleges, at almost all levels, are less selective than every before on their admissions standards. High School GPA is mattering less and less.

Once you are in, grades really are not all that important. No one working at the university really cares what your GPA is. Most employers do not care what your GPA was....just that you have the degree when you finish.

College costs have soared because of many complex reasons. The biggest being that administration costs are ridiculous, taxpayer funding has been slashed, and students want insane amenities that cost schools knee-buckling sums of money. But, since there are less students, the schools need to do it to stay competitive.

Least that is my take from a couple of decades working in higher ed. Your experience, local setting, and mileage may vary.

David Robinson, napoleon mccallum, and Phil mcconkey all were required to take calc 1,2,3 and diff equations along with 2semesters of baby electrical engineering (non calc) and 2semesters of other engineering (non calc) …

.and they weren’t even engineering majors….

College athletes having others take their tests for them has been going on forever.

but I’ll bet taking courses online like Carson beck really opens the door more for fraud, others taking the online tests with Carson becks credentials

It’s not even that hard to cheat. Nothing that complex.

In my experience almost all college students are cheating at least a little bit.

AI is making it almost impossible to stop.

Can confirm that this is something professors are concerned about.

Even before AI there were companies like cheg that would sell solutions to basically everything.

And before that (when I was in school) there were always rumors of some secret Chinese solution manual you could get if you knew the right people and went to the right photocopying place.

So anything that wasn't live and in-person would certainly have some percentage cheating.

And even live and in-person has cheaters. Sometimes elaborately enough that you wish they'd just put the same amount of effort into learning as they did cheating.

Absolutely. IF students put half as much time into learning the material as they do devising cheating methods or elaborate excuses to get out of doing it; they would just know it well enough to pass.

I am sure every generation has said something similar about the youngsters.

Devising assessments now is more about figuring out what AI is bad at and then making your students do that instead of simply measuring what they learned. The only saving grace is that AI, so far, is a pretty crappy critical thinker. Or at least in my little niche of the world it tends to not put together and apply concepts to new scenarios well. So you have to spend a bunch of time making students work through "unique" contexts that apply to the course content.

The biggest drawback is that means written or oral assessments. Both of which are incredibly time consuming to design, implement, and assess.

Anyways....all of this is WAY off topic. But the bottom line is skynet is making people really dumb really fast.

The elite level QB's in from 2000-2020 in Brady, P Manning, Brees, Rothlibsbeger are retired and a very old Rodgers will soon be joining them. That was an all time high point!

The next wave of top players today in 2026 is a notch below them.

You listed 20 years as being elite but you already know the next wave of 20 years will be a notch below them

You do make up some funny stuff but it’s hard to believe anything you post

    But we have discussed this

Okay, who among the active QB's ( The 5 men I mentioned ) from 2002-2018 is in the sam in ability or better form 2019-2026

You have one guy Holmes, I have five.

Granted you have a few years to go. Good luck in finding four more.

There is a definite difference in quality.

You kind of amuse me, and to thing that is free.
