LoL. I'm not saying Gonzalez sucks, he just sucked at blocking, he was a very good wr. I'm just saying that Gronk was the complete package. I believe that old boy from Dallas was a complete TE(I can't remember his name)also, not as good as Gronk, but good.
I've seen other TEs that were better blockers than Gronk, but not better Wrs, and I've seen other TEs that were better Wrs than Gronk, but not better blockers. He could do both equally great. That's all I'm saying.

And now the Steelers have the best blocking TE to ever play the game ...The more tape I watch the more amazed I am with Washington..

Jason Witten. He grew up about an hour from where I live. Heath Miller was even closer. Both great TE's.

He may be a few ticks faster on the stop watch but his playing speed is well below Muths. Washington isnt doing any of the seem work Muth has done. Muth is a much better receiving TE and threat overall.

Washington provides mismatches that they should take advantage of but hes never going to be this great pass catching TE fans want him to be. And hes just going to keep getting hurt because the only way to tackle him is taking out his legs and already has knee problems. He also needs to learn how to run with that football, carries that thing way out from his body, been 3 seasons and still doing that.

Fair points and I agree PF is the better pass catching threat as I graded.. However, I still disagree on overall threat .. I don't think the TE spot will be a huge focus in the passing game .. The main reason is the spread helps AR see the field better and what the D is trying to do, I see a lot less tight formations..

I just value the blocking ability of Washington more than the passes either may get ..He can block any type of Defender either heads up or on the move , this is huge for play calling ..

Heck he is so good on the move he may get the H-Back role some as well ?

This is certainly an issue with a big schematic shift (assuming that's what happens). We needed two guys who were starters at TE (although we played PF like a TE3 because...well, I don't know why) because we ran so many 2 and 3 TE sets.

But now we're very likely be be an 11 team. So having 2x starting TEs isn't great.

If we don't take a WR early, maybe we'll still run a bunch of 12 and have Washington in-line with Freiermuth more in the slot?

Hopefully MM will adjust the offense to suit the guys we have. And if our 2nd TE is better to have on the field than our 3rd WR, hopefully that's something we don't shy away from.

Personally, I'd try to trade Freiermuth if I could get any kind of reasonable compensation (I'd be OK with picks next year too probably).

That's why I think it would be stupid to faze him out of the game. He can be used in so many ways.
