I think they'll draft the guard out of Penn St Olaivavega Ioane in the first round if he's still on the board. The guy is a monster. I think it would be a great pick because the game is won in the trenches.

So if he was panicked under pressure, logic says it was our D. I know you don't want to give them credit, but You are breaking your neck not to

    +1

Isn't it the job of the defense to make the QB panic? I think so.

OL is critical to constructing a winning football team. But this team has no offensive playmakers in the pipeline. None - unless anyone still believes in Kaleb Johnson or Roman Wilson. The entire set of skill position players on the roster will be 30 or older by 2030. On defense, it is a bit better with Harmon, Benton, Black, and JPJ being young. Wilson and Herbig could be added to that list if they are viewed as potential full time impact starters.

But with QB MOST LIKELY pushed to the 2027 draft...it is 2029 when you are looking at needing a roster to make a big playoff push. Figure rookie year +1 full season for the new QB to get sorted out at the NFL level.

What is going to be more critical to success in 2029 or 2030, a guard or a WR that can break defensive coverage schemes? A TE that can threaten defenses inside? Heck, a functional RB...that is not even addressing needing established players at all levels of the defense.

Once that rookie QB contract starts....the clock is ticking on the single biggest advantage an NFL team can have - a cheap rookie QB deal.

For me, getting another WR, and talented replacements for the old and expensive pieces on defense in place ASAP is more important to building the next Steelers SB team than a first round guard is.

But maybe the order doesn't matter as much as I think it does?

I hear what you're saying, but it doesn't matter how many playmakers you have if there's nobody to block for them. Maybe they can pick up a good guard in FA, and draft a WR in the first round. Both are positions of need. If they do draft a WR in the first round, I hope it's someone that can be a deep threat, that's something the Steelers have been lacking for awhile now.

I'll wait until after this draft before I push the panic button on the offense, especially given an offensive HC is now in charge.
Get the OL right and you have a decade to get skill guys. And their learning curves are quicker.

I gave them some credit, but most quarterbacks don't panic like he did so often in that game. In case you missed it, he had the same issue the following week, throwing four interceptions in the first half as the Texans lost to the Patriots. Stroud's struggle weren't unique to the game against the Steelers.

Austin stinks. Short arms, small hands, dropped several passes that hit him in the hands. I am over him and glad they let him walk. We need NFL WR, not gadget players that make one good play every 4 or 5 weeks.

I loved that commercial. DArn good clay/art work too.

I also loved the Careerbuilder monkey commercial in super bowl, the one where the one human said buying a million dollars in lottery tickets isn't a business plan and the monkeys all stop partying and stare at him...then the boss monkey (who had money on fire in his hand) fingers towards him to dance...and he did.

I think the post season proved that if you don't have a line to protect your QB you aren't going to win a championship no matter how many skill guys you got. A WR can learn the position in two seasons. An OL might take 2+ years to hit their stride. A top WR might account for eight to ten plays in a game. A guard, 50+.

I get it. OL aren't sexy picks. Not gonna flash across the screen (unless they suck). But good ones are worth the picks. Also note how OL salaries are accelerating. Having said all this, Ioane is the only IOL to pick in Rd1 and he isn't getting past BAL, MIN, or TB, all needing IOL help.

Ioane is a great kid too. There is a video short on youtube showing him in his uniform jumping over a railing to help an equipment manager push a loaded cart up a hill at an away stadium...all while being heckled. It won't let me post shorts at this website. Just search youtube for "Ioane good guy" and it will pop up. He's great player and a great guy that will likely be loved by the community as well. He's a guy you want to root for.

He looks pretty athletic jumping over the railing as well.

    EDIT: Found the video

    I agreed but a stipulation.
He is a speedy guy and if used as the slot type, can cause problems.
But I agree with your analysis of his skillset. He doesn't often come up with contested catches and he's dropped clutch ones.
