Is he bringing his two turntables and a microphone?

    My apologies...

Oh, he's definitely a fit in a west coast system... its just whether or not he has the upside in the league to be a starter. I am not sure that he does.

He turned it over a lot less in 2023 than 2024 and 2025, but I am not sure that has to do with the injury... because he was turning it over at double the clip in 2024 before his injury. Whether or not it was more lively before the injury, its not particularly strong now. Maybe he gets a small bit back, maybe not. Either way, I wouldn't bet on it before day 3. If we take him in the 4th round or later, then whatever. Those picks rarely pan out anyways. I just don't think he's worth one of our day 2 picks.

We have a good developmental QB prospect already with size, an average arm, and some decent development to be had. I am not really sure what value drafting Beck brings us. If all goes well, I could see Beck becoming a decent NFL back up, but why go for that when we are already developing one we hope is a good back up/starter eventually? Beck is probably better than Howard in the quick game, but Howard is going to get the ball downfield better than Beck and he is a natural leader where Beck.... isn't, to say the least.

No skirt chasing QB that liked to party all night ever won a championship. Wait I guess Bobby Layne won 3, Joe Namath pulled off the biggest upset in Superbowl history, Kenny Stabler would stumble in hungover and then go out and throw 3 TD's on his way to a Superbowl title and the Hall of Fame and Big Ben won 2 Lombardi's while chasing hot girls and out partying all night. And it should be noted that once Ben got married and settled down he never won another title.

    Rudy sucks donkey balls.

Howard v Beck v Haynes King (late round flier), and let those three shake out.

    Rudolph only as emergency QB3.

I'd be fine if they draft Allar or Nussmeir or Beck in rd 3/4 and add Haynes King round 5/6 (if there). Haynes King is very mobile, exceptionally tough, a leader and only some mediocre passing fundamentals hold him back from being round 1/2. If you think you can smooth things out, he could be a late round stud. Even with his subpar fundamentals, he was still quite effective passing the ball, though in some cases shrewd OC play-calling got hime some good looks. He throws WELL on the move too.

As I said, he's a later round flier and I hope the Steelers take that shot, lots of upside there if we have a QB coach worth a darn.

Have Howard (unkown) v Allar/Nussmeir/Beck v King duke it out in practice, pre-season and, hopefully roll with those three on the QB depth chart. See if you can get a 5th round pick for Rudolph...doubtful.

“Marginal mobility and cannot escape the rush.” Never forget this was said about Big Ben and a common theme in his draft profile.

I tend to think when writing negatives about prospects they sometimes cling to cliches. Can’t handle pressure, lacks mobility, slow to process, ect ect.

Sometimes they prove to be the exact opposite.

I said few, and many of your examples are so old, most posters here have not seen the play live.

Ben was has way more talent then Beck.

Maybe Ben didn't "escape" the rush as much as he "absorbed" it? :drinks:

Yep, Ben sure shook a few defensive players off in his career. Was always fun to watch.

We're so blessed to have had him and Troy playing together at the same time.

Maybe the two most exciting football players I've ever seen (Note: I'm clearly biased here)

It was an overall theme in his evaluation. I dont remember one of them projecting him to be the escape artist he was and thats the point. Wasn’t under his listed strengths.

This stuff isnt an exact science and people are wrong a lot, you dont know until they get out there and start doing it.

It’s fun watching those old clips of Ben evade the rush. We really are lucky as a fan base to have had a lot of big time players come through the Burgh.

I watched him in college and it's one of the reasons I evaluated him as the best quarterback in that class. He could clearly move very well. He was huge, athletic, and he had a great arm with the ability to throw on the run.

Anyone watching this that had no idea he could move well should hand in whatever credentials they have.

There was one play in that highlight reel that foreshadowed what was to come and that was the last play. Unless his tape is littered with examples like that one, no one would have projected him to be the escape artist he was. It wasn’t hyped up as part of his game, it just wasnt so that means everyone missed it.

Im in no way saying that will be Beck, just that his lack of mobility is over emphasized. He’s 23 years old, you can move at that age, people acting like he’s 42 year old Rodgers.

This was a fun watch, thanks!

The thing I remember most about the pre-draft (and post-draft) talk about Ben was that people were worried about the lack of competition in the MAC (which wasn't as well regarded then as it is now IIRC).

I think this is why he was the 3rd of 3 highly regarded QBs in that draft.

And he only fell to us because Cleveland is the worst run franchise in the league. And they took "soldier boy"...a TE turned serial geriatric rapist (after he left the league).

I'm telling you that I saw it easily in Ben and so should have everyone else. If you watched enough tape, his mobility was on display ALL THE TIME. It's not like there were 15 athletic plays in his college career. There were hundreds of them. People that say that they didn't see it are lying or they were lazy and didn't do their homework. It was as obvious as it could be. He even had an 80-yard TD run against Iowa I think. Makes a couple dudes miss and takes it the length of the field.

Anyone saying that he wasn't mobile didn't watch tape or see him play live enough. It jumped off the screen how creative and mobile he was.

Beck is not in the same league as Ben as an athlete.

That and he didn't play QB until his last year of high school or start or something.

So like not enough experience and a lesser conference.

But he put up yards and points in the bowl game.

    I had forgotten about this.

Something about his HS coach having his son play instead of Ben?

Sorry for the confusion, I wasnt implying you didn’t, I was talking about the scouting reports that I read and none of them touted that.

I wasnt into the draft back then, this was me going back afterwards once I started getting into that aspect of the game because I was curious to what was said about him.

I dont remember anyone here ever saying it was obvious that was a strong point of his game either. I remember most was about what Mojo and Northwestern are talking about plus the non mobile stuff.
