The first one. btw, not disagreeing with what you say.

But the AFCN has two examples of defensive HCs that struggled to get anywhere in the postseason recently. The Steelers have decided to go the offensive route while Minter in Baltimore could build a shutdown defense while having an MVP QB. Will this finally get them to a championship? Can an offensive Steelers get past week 1? Gonna be fun to see how this plays out.

Personally, I want Washington to get 5+ targets a game. I think he is far more than just a goal line guy.

If he sees 5+ targets a game then something went very wrong with out WR room.

I imagine they will be picking one in the draft, good choices there.

    DK
    Pittman
    draft pick

Should be a good room and then add Muth plus Dowdle/Warren. There is no way Washington is seeing 5+ targets.

You don’t think Washington is the second coming of Gronk

Lots of good choices but the mock drafts seem to have a lot of receivers taken before our first pick

If that is the case it would not be wise to take a receiver in the first so now we are talking pretty far down the list

More Vance McDonald but better blocking chops slightly less receiving chops.

No he hasnt. Vance had 610 yards in his best season. Washington for his career has 650 yards.

He had 364 yards last season on 43 targets, a breakout year for him but hes not likely to see that many targets again.

I would say that if he doesn't get 5+ targets a game, then our OC is clueless.

    Mixing apple and kumquats

Washington only has 3 seasons so to be fair I compared to Vance’s first 3 seasons

    And Washington is better

He's basically Marcedes Lewis again. He's a bit bigger than Lewis (and maybe not quite the receiving threat), but I think his ceiling is a TE2 that gets a good amount of run in the red zone and sprinked in during the game. Washington is a good player and definitely someone we should want to keep around.

You don't have to be the 2nd coming of Gronk to be effective. It was about 4 targets a game last year, and does everyone remember how when he got hurt we couldn't move the ball the same.

No #2 receiver last year. All teams had to do was take DK out of the game.

And also, MM doesnt run the offense through the TE’s.

Like I said, you are going to have DK, Pittman, presumably a rookie WR, Warrren and Dowdel and then Muth.

As a receiving threat, Washington is behind all those guys except maybe the rookie WR, until he gets up to speed anyway. I just don’t see how his targets are as high as last season.

I hope You are wrong. He is a weapon, and He has shown it when given a chance, and I believe Rodgers likes throwing to him.

Vance is a better receiving TE and it’s really not debatable but enjoy your apples and kumquats.

Reminds me of the Steelers playing Brady. We all knew what the play was going to be.......just could not stop it.

    Darnell Washington is 6' 7" 311 pounds.

    Zach Banner was 6' 8" 335 pounds.

I'm skeptical of Mt Washington. I may be wrong but right now I believe he's more likely to be another Zach Banner. And yes, I was cheering for him like all you were. every time he was introduced as 'eligible' during the game.

I just don't see the game-changing future production from Washington that others see.

You think McDonald was a better blocker than Washington? While McDonald was a good run blocking Tight End, Washington is a great run blocking TE. IMO, Washington is the best blocking TE in football!

With a better coach who understands what he is capable of, a player like him can be featured in the ground game. Isolate him 1 on 1 with the DE or LB's I would. But that is what the old Tomlin coaches sedlom did. Mike M understands this... I think.

You misread, I was saying Washington has the better blocking chops but not as good a receiver.

I was setting around thinking how you use a player like Washington ? He is a 1 of a kind player in the NFL that is really rare ...How could a smarter OC use him better ? So I thought back to when the Team I coached had rare guys at TE ..Guys who matched the height, weight, speed with Athletic ability combo like Washington ..What did we do and looking at other Teams who had those guys I found 3 more and what did they do ? This was over a 15 year period or so,, so even in HS it is still rare ..

After watching a few films I can't believe I forgot ..Unbalanced line with Tackle over creating a extra run gap on the strong side while making Washington the weakside OT and he is a eligible pass catcher..How does the D play it if you treat him like a tackle with a DT then advantage passing game ..If you treat him as a TE and play him with Sam LB then advantage run game...Teams will have to adjust .. Maybe this is part of what MM was cooking up in the lab a way to take a old HS and College set and bring it to the NFL ? The main obstacle is most Teams don't have that type of player ,,the Steelers do..

So he can be used as a Tackle and as a pass catching threat at the same time ..So now my view is not either or but his own position as a pass catching Tackle...

Sure I could agree with that

If I ignored making a fair and equal evaluation based on equal years and then stirred that up with my own personal bias

    I could get there

But for now based on the actual statistics available Washington’s first 3 years exceed McDonald

We can chat further on this when the field is level in a few years

I thought it was a fair comparison, Vanceanimal was a good TE.

But Gronk he will never be.
