    Florida Attorney General
James Uthmeier has drawn national attention and criticism from Democratic lawmakers, particularly Black Democrats, for his actions and legal opinions regarding race-based laws and policies, with some critics directly labeling his actions as racist or politically motivated "stunts".

Let’s not discuss racism here please

This is not aimed at the OP by any means but it’s not hard to see where this will go

League shouldnt respond. Guy is looking for attention and to make a name for himself.

Legally he doesnt have a leg to stand on and he knows it so dont give him what he wants.

I dont believe it to be a very effective rule but thats a different argument.

I will take it another place. :)

Chicago Bears lose out on Comp pick when their Assistant GM goes to Atlanta to become their GM. According to the Rooney rule Chicago should be eligible for 2 Comp picks in back to back seasons.

The NFL said no, because Atlanta had already hired Matt Ryan as President of Football. The NFL considers Ryan the primary football executive, the Bears weren't able to get extra draft picks for 2026 and 2027. A recent interview with Ryan is going to have fans fuming. Ryan shared that Cunningham will be in charge of the Falcons' free agency and draft picks in April.

What the hell is a GM, because it sure sounds like Ian Cunningham is Atlanta's GM and Matt Ryan is more of a figure head with control of nothing.

    AI:
Rooney Rule Requirements: Under Resolution JC-2A, teams are awarded two third-round picks when a minority front office member is hired as the primary decision-maker (GM or higher) by another team

"Let's not make this political" as a Florida politician tries to make it political. Okay.

"The video posted by Florida attorney general James Uthmeier on Wednesday has been supplemented with formal correspondence.

Via Andrew Atterbury of Politico, Uthmeier sent a letter to Commissioner Roger Goodell demanding that the Rooney Rule no longer be applied to NFL teams in Florida.

In the letter, copies of which were sent to the owners of the Dolphins, Jaguars, and Buccaneers, Uthmeier asks for confirmation by May 1 “that the NFL will no longer enforce the Rooney Rule or any variation or extension thereof — which requires consideration of race, sex, or any other prohibited classification — on teams in Florida.” Uthmeier adds that "[f]ailure to provide such confirmation may result in a civil rights enforcement action.”

From the letter: “The NFL’s own Executive Vice President of NFL Operations has acknowledged that the NFL should create ‘a workplace culture that doesn’t require mandates to interview people of color and minorities.’ If that is so, then stop discriminating based on race. Stop discriminating based on sex. Interview, hire, and train based on merit. If merit-based employment should exist anywhere (and it should exist everywhere), it is in the NFL. NFL fans in Florida don’t care what color their coach’s skin is. They care what colors their coach is wearing — and that those colors are winning on the football field.”

There is a bonus like this for coaches too I think.

But IIRC the coach has to be in the organization for a certain amount of time or something?

I think there was some discussion about how we didn't qualify for this type of bonus when Flores was here and then left (even if it was for a HC position)?

FWIW, I think this type of rule goes way further than the rule for interviewing candidates. I don't think the mandatory interviews are bad. But getting a [potential future] bonus for hiring someone based on their immutable characteristics seems like the wrong direction to go IMO.

And it also may be that this rule runs counter to the intended effect if teams don't hire someone because it would give an opposing team (could even be a division rival) significant draft capital.

Start legal action against the league, so they can let their lawyers handle it. One of many reasons he will lose is that the Rooney Rule does not force teams to hire anybody. It just forces them to diversify their candidate pool.

You dont get a bonus for hiring someone. The organization that loses an employee gets the bonus

How did the employee become part of the organization they left if they weren't hired?

You're correct that it's a lottery ticket when you're hiring someone vs. a sure thing.

I edited the original post with square brackets to improve clarity.

Don't have to think about the Rooney Rule for a second. Or race. Or politics. Take all that out and put it in a box labelled "Don' Touch".

This dude is still a fool. Why? I'm gonna go ahead and assume an entity with a license to print money and an annual revenue of a small country is going to be able to bury any lawsuit in so much paperwork, procedural nonsense, and legal what have you that the party bringing the lawsuit would drown in billable hours before they even saw the inside of a courtroom.

Either the guy is in the conversation for possessing the world's smoothest brain or it is a PR stunt prior to him running for some office.

    Don't care.
If people really realize that many, many, many politicians only say stuff that will get them votes, and many don't really believe what they say, and will change on the drop of a dime to whatever else may get them votes.
Hell we know this is true. The Republicans hate whatever the Democrats are doing even if it was something they were trying to push a few years back, and the Democrats hate whatever the Republicans are doing even if they themselves were trying to push the same agenda a few years back. How can people not remember recent history , and not see this???
This is why I laugh at both sides, and I hate politics, and really don't want them on this board. Thank You.

Gotta disagree on a few points. One side turned into a cult of personality and the other is just a political party like it always was. But yeah... politics suck and it's a very depressing topic. This is a Steelers message board, no politics needed....and there's plenty of political message boards out there to act like a 6th grade bully/Carnival Barker if one wishes. :smiley1:

    Has this ever happened?

Seriously, it gives a team an extra incentive to get rid of a minority in position of power ( unless he is excellent ) because according to this they can receive two 3rd round picks IF he is hired by another team! It also gives a team the green light to fire a good GM him if there is a star GM out there and receive two 3rd round picks.

The Rooney rule can be both insulting and flawed at the same time.

That is the optics. Now enough on politics.

I would say you say this because you like one side over the other, while I have no bias, because I dislike them all equally, and I can show where what I said has happened over, and over with both sides for the last 50 years. They all suck, and instead of actually helping our country, they bicker like school children, and have no place on the Steelers board.
