For any single game, a 42 year old QB has as high a ceiling as any time in their career.

The problem is how often they will stay at that ceiling during a long season. And how often they will dwell at their basement level until they get a lot of rest.
If the Steelers could figure out a way to play Rodgers every other week (and have him completely rested for the playoffs), then I'd be fine with bringing him back. But if they plan to make him the starter every week, then I'd rather they don't bring him back.

(That's the problem with the suggestion to let the QBs compete in the pre-season. A fresh early season Rodgers will be better than the others. And a mid/late season Rodgers will be worse than the others.)

Considering that the Steelers finished above 9 wins the last 3 seasons, the idea that their ceiling is 9 wins is bad.

For the playoff loss... I was too chicken to post my prediction at the time, but I think the playoffs hinged on that 2nd Cleveland game.
When they lost, I figured they would lose the WC round game, due to having two all-out games (Browns then Ravens) and an over-40 QB not getting a break.
If they had won the Browns game, they could have rested everyone for the Ravens game. That would have helped the team in general, but especially Rodgers. Instead of a 7-6 score at halftime and running out of gas in the 2nd half, a rested Steelers would have likely put away the Texans. (So I don't agree with the idea that they would go into the season expecting an automatically first playoff game loss.)

The only other team to take a QB before the Steelers did was the Eagles a couple of spots before them and that wouldnt have changed anything.

The point I am making is I believe his fall has more to do with circumstances than lack of talent. There werent a lot of teams looking for a starter. Titans and Giants in rd 1, Saints in rd 2. Then you have Cleveland doing Cleveland things.

I figured hed go in the 3rd or 4th rd which is where most projections had him.

So again.... having Will Howard in addition to another potential QB option drafted in 2026 doesn't forbid the team to draft one in 2027. There is no written nor unwritten law that enforces such an idea anyways. Maybe the team rolls into 2026 with Will Howard. Maybe the team waits still for Aaron Rodgers to start with Will as the backup.

Regardless and, as I say again, none of this matters at present. Why?! This roster has one hole too many for the Steelers to even think about competing for the Conference Championship; much less a Super Bowl. Grabbing a QB and him being the one helps but that alone doesn't mean much if the rest of the team has been constructed of tissue paper. Get the guy yes but make sure the team around him is just as good; doubly so in the trenches.

I really don't, but I'm not the one who has taken to lying about receiving PMs to get attention.

Because NFL teams are notorious for underdrafting quarterbacks. lol

So no real rebuttal. Just more of you being a jerk and then you cry and report people meanwhile you just go around provoking everyone.

My mistake for trying to be civil. You really are a piece of work.

Just imagine some alternate timeline where the Browns stopped being the Browns from 2017 forward.

To start off, they'd have an actual GM for the draft instead of an Exec VP of Football Operations. (Sashi Brown was fired on Dec 7th 2017 when they hired Dorsey.)

For the 2017 draft, they pick Mahomes instead of Garrett. (Could probably trade down a few spots from the top pick to get more draft value, but let's say there are no trading partners.)
They'd lose out on a DPoY, but he would be replaced by someone who would do more than a total of 3 tackles and 0 sacks in the two 2025 games against the Steelers.
Already having a QB, they get back the 2nd round pick used on DeShone Kizer.
(They had 3 1st round picks that year. Maybe they take TJ Watt with pick 29 instead of TE David Njoku.)

Todd Haley arrives in 2018, and gets Mahomes on track after Hue Jackson's disastrous 2017 season. (Maybe the team keeps Haley around to get the offense to a respectable level, instead of whatever Freddie Kitchens did.)
The ripple effect from Mahomes continues, and they don't have to use their 2018 1st round pick on Mayfield.
They also don't trade for Watson, so besides the massive cap relief, they get back 3 1st round picks (2022-2024), a 3rd, and two 4ths (while losing the Houston 6th round pick).

They'd still have to get their coaching straightened out (the Hue Jackson aftermath), but that team would have a lot more talent.
And since these are the Browns-not-being-the-Browns, these players wouldn't flee for free agency as soon as they could.
