So much promise his rookie season. I dont believe talent sunk Claypool, it was being lazy and football not being his top priority. Too busy trying to build his brand.

If he has his head on straight now and they wanted to give him the vet minimum and let him compete for a job, probably would be worth kicking the tires. Competing means just that though, he needs to earn a roster spot.

    I agree, but....
I believe change in Qbs had a lot to do with it.
It's not magic that both DJ, and Claypool who looked good with Ben both turned bad, and can't stay on a team since He left.

Yeah if McCarthy doesn't allow music at practice that will be a deal breaker for Claypool.

Footwork on route running was terrible. Couldn't catch a ball without leaving his feet. No thanks.

If he wanted to reform, he should have done it 4 years ago. Now he's just an older version of himself that ran out of money.

Don't get me wrong, I love seeing young men figuring things out, but I'm not sure if that is what this is. If he comes in to work out and works his ass off to get a hat...good for him. I just don't know that it can happen at this point or that he even deserves the opportunity.

Ben was not a fan of Claypool that last season together. As far as I know nothing was ever said about it publicly, but you could just tell the way Ben would stare Claypool down after plays. A similar reaction to Rodgers talking about how everyone is in the film room together but some players still just don't get it.
I wouldn't want Claypool back on the team in any capacity. But especially when trying to rebuild an offense with young guys.

As for DJ, I never saw the shine. I do not understand any level of hype with that one. Bad drops at the worst times, losing first downs after getting it on the catch, just too many bone-headed things with those 2 for me.

Notice I never called either one a team cancer. I just don't think they were ever team guys.

Although I agree with you ,but we can't take away how much different/ better DJ, and Claypool were with Ben.
Claypool : 1733 yard, and 11 TDs in two years with Ben.
DJ : 2084 yards, and 15 tds with Ben in 2 years.
That my friend is great numbers with Ben for both, and after Ben they both looked lost, and couldn't keep a job.
Another reason I say that Qbs make 97% of all WRs.

A QB has to really suck if his team signing Wentz is writing in the wall.

Johnson showed promise as a rookie, the year Roethlisberger was out with an elbow injury, catching 59 passe for 680 yards. He caught 86 passes for 880 yards in 2022, mostly playing with Kenny Pickett. Was he better with the future Hall of Famer throwing to him? Sure. Was he entirely a product of that? Absolutely not.

A top quarterback can prop up a talented scrub like Claypool, but the very good receivers are good no matter who is throwing them the ball. We've been through this before. Your theory doesn't hold up.

Currently the Steelers have 12 draft picks.

    Answer: Because they can. :)

And, I think a 23 year old JJ McCarthy is going to be better than anything they can find in rounds 4-7.
    (Nussmeier, Beck, Payton)

The Steelers hosted quarterback prospects Carson Beck and Cole Payton for pre-draft visits this week, according to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, signaling their interest in some of this class’ less-heralded passers.

Steelers really need to add at least 1 more WR ahead of the draft.

I'm looking at other positions they are being mocked to draft multiple of like DB and that room is WAY more filled out with players with experience but also just players in general.

Outside of QB1, there isnt a position on the roster where they have empty slots like they do at WR.

Honestly, I'd be good bringing back Andrus Peat. Quality backup at tackle. Especially with Brodericks's status up in the air.

Now we know why the Seahawks let Kenneth Walker leave in free agency, which is a mistake IMO he's a homerun hitter at RB.
