Simpson didn't impress me with the games he played at the end of the season. He was awful against Georgia and subpar against Indiana before leaving with an injury.

You do realize Howard actually started for that championship team, right? Not exactly a comparable situation to how Pickett got his ring.

He attempts and completes significantly more passes over the middle than most quarterbacks, resulting in high yardage. That has someting to do with the total amout of passes swatted. While his height (6'1") may lead to a slightly higher rate of swatted passes in the 10-yard wide box compared to taller QBs, his mechanics, spacing, and understanding of passing windows are exceptional.

Although he has only started 15 games, he likely would have been a much higher draft pick with 25–30 starts, as most quarterbacks show significant improvement in their second year. Notably, he ranked first last year when playing against Top 25 opponents.

In comparing him to Brock Purdy, I believe Ty has a slightly better arm and slightly more mobility. Furthermore, his ball security is significantly better than Purdy’s.

IMO, Purdy is a top 15 NFL QB. More like top 10.

We can't, but I can tell you who played better in college at that position. They both played with tremendous talent at both schools, and yet they weren't even close .

He won't be Pickett bad no matter what. But we do know, fit and coaching and WR/TE/OL make a huge difference, player ot player. Simpson is quality QB that was limited with some injuries (tried to play through them) and sub-par surrounding cast (Alabama may never be Alabama again after Saban left).

I don't think any QB is worthy of pick 21 give we have dire needs at LG, MLB, WR, SCB, FS, SS and LT.

IF the Steelers think he has the fire, leadership and strength to be THE guy, then draft him. I don't know Simpson enough to say anything about the intangibles.

If not the guy, the get a couple of day 1 starters at other positions in round 1 and 2 and grab QB3/4/5/6 in round 3/4.

I do think they HAVE to draft a QB this year, middle rounds, to compete with Howard and whomever else they end up with (Rodgers or, yuck, Rudolph). Can't have just Howard in the huddle with no competition.

You say this as if Pickett was bad in college. The guy was third in the Heisman Trophy voting for a reason. There is every chance that Simpson could be worse than Pickett as a pro.

I'm not a fan of Picketts at all, but You are correct.
People keep also forgetting that Simpson played with one of the most loaded teams in college, and still looked like he did.

Tim Tebow won 2 National Championships at Florida. Tim Tebow also led the Broncos to victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wildcard round of 2011 season.

All this is kind of overcomplicating the issue.

When you watch Ty Simpson play, do you go "Holy ****" very often? If not, then he likely isn't the guy.

Everyone's favorite cautionary tale is Tom Brady. He played back when I watched college football. Got a ton of big10 games based on geographic location. I swear, anyone who watched those Michigan games would have been unable to say why Hanson? Henson? was viewed as the better QB prospect. Sure he was taller. That was it. When Brady came in the team exploded out of the huddle and Brady just made plays happen. Sure, he sometimes throw an ugly ball and he ran like he had an anchor tied to him....but he just made play after play. Even a blind man like me could see it.

So just watch Simpson play. Don't think. Don't analyze anything. Just watch him play. Do you find yourself sitting up and paying attention a lot?

People love to give Tebow too much credit for winning two championships at Florida, he wasn't the starter in the first one.
