Interesting move. It's a good one, I'm just wondering how they want to use him and how the scheme is going to be for the new DC.

Good rotational piece for Heyward. I mean, he has to decline some year right?

We have to be able to stop the run, teams have run roughshod over the Steelers in recent years.
Here is hoping YA and Benton can pick up their game. It appears Steelers think so too with this signing.

I am not seeing this as for Heyward maybe Benton but this new signing has NT written all over it.

SD notes he's played mostly 3 tech in his career.

This is how I think black will turn out to be. Rotational, and can do 3 downs if needed.

However I have no idea what our scheme will be.

I promoted this about 5 years ago and got banged on the head with shovels by people telling me nose tackles aren’t used anymore

Must be able to stop the run, Wilson and Queen are not able to stop runners,
hopefully the Steelers will be able to find a NT that would be able to eat up blockers?

In watching his highlights one thing jumps out early that could be a plus for him as a Steeler is that playing alongside Donald he made good use of Donald getting dbl teamed and got home with pressure/sacks/tackles. We have seen the rest of the defense struggle when teams game plan to take Watt out of the equation and the can't take advantage of that focus.

that is where a kayden mcdonald would serve them well. not quite 340 but solid as a rock on the interior and wouldn't kill you if he got caught on the field on passing downs.

Good depth signing. Running teams like Baltimore he will be used. I can see him and Harmon on running downs. Eat up blocks to keep the offensive lineman off the ILBers.

It will be interesting seeing what Patrick Graham cooks up.

Seen where SJD says Cam Heyward is "a first ballot HOF'r". I get the hype but first ballot is a question in my mind. No doubt his elevated play for his career boosts his case but the lack of postseason stats really hurts. LC Greenwood is still waiting.

Heyward will get in early because he made a bunch of All-Pro teams despite his lack of playoff success.

So does this acquisition prevent us from Drafting McDonald or Hunter?

It wouldn't stop me from drafting a player that can be a legit nose tackle in a 3-4. A guy that can take on double teams and protect the linebackers so they can run free to make tackles.

I don't know how the team feels about it, but I don't know that Joseph-Day is that guy. He has played the position before, but is he the force inside to hold up against double teams? I don't think we have the answer to that at this point. The team will probably answer that if they take a true nose tackle in the draft.

    Nope.

Depth as I see it. Depth is very much necessary in the trenches. Cannot ever have too many of those big men up front.

As for McDonald vs. Hunter, I'd choose Kayden 10/10 times and twice on Sundays. McDonald has run stuffing abilities that few can match sans Peter Woods.

Even if he is the force, he's 30 yrs old. Should not pass up a chance to draft young with potential of a Hampton (or even Hoke).

Not even so much depth as rotation just to keep players fresh
