He got caught out of position far too often, including a brutal performance that could have cost them the game against the Ravens. I'm sure he will be better with an entire offseason to focus on the change, but I'm not optimistic.

Good signing but we need a FS who can play single high. Not sure if he, Elliot or Ramsey can do that.

This signing reminds me of what I thought on the Elliot signing. This is not just a depth guy. He is a potential starter, and if things play out could be an impact player. At first look, a safety on a one year, $5.5M deal is nothing to notice, but if he stays healthy and plays to his potential, this guy could be a big contributor.

I think it was more than some, and those were some serious screw ups.

He changed positions in season

It stands to reason that a year under his belt going into this season he’ll have ironed a lot of that out. Im not expecting all pro, hes on the wrong side of 30 but his play should be much better and he was by no means horrible there last year.

I was hoping the Steelers were going to draft him out of PSU when he was there, but Bears took him before we drafted.

He was horrible at times, and his tendencies don't really fit the position. He is a playmaker, at best when he can be aggressive. They need a free safety to be disciplined. That doesn't seem like a good fit for him at all.

The guy is an established starter in the league. I imagine that the injury history kept his price down, but he's not there to be a backup.

Looks like the Steelers agree. If they were going to release him it would have happened Friday when money was due to him.

See. That's why I haven't said anything. I hope they don't. He is also a 2nd teacher/coach on the field, and I believe if He only plays Safety, he could still be really good at it. People forget the damn good things he did his 1st year here, I repeat 1st year here, and at multiple positions, and they only focus on the negative.

I suspect he was caught out of position trying to cover for the horrendous play of Clark and Thornhill. And also all the Queen missed tackles. Can't be everywhere, all at once.

I would rather have Ramsey play slot CB; he clearly has lost a step and they could use his physical style of play at the LOS.

Thornhill was long gone by the time Ramsey nearly handed the Ravens that final game of the season. He made some splash plays, but that's the problem. Dropping back deep and cleaning up other player's messes is the opposite of his game.

Are you referring to the game where Queen and Clark finished with one total tackle each? Ramsey can't be everywhere all at once.

In no way does that statistic absolve Ramsey being out of position. Maybe he can be a lot better with more time to focus on the shift to safety, but the role is completely different from everything he has done and goes against his aggressive tendencies.

Ramsey might not have played the perfect game but he wasn't at the top of the list of what was wrong. Look at who is still with the team and who isn't. That should tell you something. Or maybe you think Dugger, Clark, Thornhill, and Slay should still be Steelers?

Just because there are other reasons the defense sucked much of the time last season doesn't mean Ramsey was good.

You know I'm a defensive guy, and so of course I stick up for them, but can anyone tell me out of the 10 games we won, the Defense wasn't the main reason we won. I could be wrong, but I can't think of one game the offense carried the Defense.
