What. The only pass Kordell was good at was the deep sidelines pass. He was so bad that they asked our OC before the AFC Championship game against the Broncos why they didn't run certain routes with him, and He said if we win, and go to the SB , I'll tell you. Well we lost , and Kordell threw multiple picks, and he never told.

And Yet how many SBs , or even AFC Championship games has LJ won???
Again we had a running Qb vs a Pocket Qb in this last SB. Who won??

Really. He won more games with Justin Fields has before , or after he left.
He won more games with Mason than after Mason left. He won He won more games with Russell Wilson than the year before he came, or after he left. He won more games with Pickett than since He left. He won more games with A. Rodgers than Rodgers did his last year in Green Bay, and his two years in the Jets. Did I cover them all?? So tell me again how he didn't win games with inferior Qbs. I don't remember him having a losing season with any Qb. Not one.

Kordell is mine and Tomlin's age... around 53-54. Yeah, definitely too damn old.

I also think people forget how many designed types of running plays we had for Stewart. It didn't work because everytime we got into a big game, and we faced a team that could say, ok , we take away your running, your legs, we have designed our D to do that, so now beat us with your arm in the pocket, he couldn't. Hmmm:hmm:
Me thinks automatically to the most coveted running Qbs in the league. Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson. How many AFC Championship wins, or SBs do they have between. I can't seem to recall :hmm:

I guess Go back , and look up the articles before that AFC Championship game. I didn't even have internet then. I'm only telling you what they were talking about on the TV before the game, and during the game. I also believe Chan Gailey went elsewhere right after that.

The point of my post was that if they changed the system more to fit Stewart, he may have been more effective. If he was more effective, he would have been the starter much longer and may have developed much more and maintained his confidence while he grew as a player.

Just because LJ hasn't won a AFC Championship or a Super Bowl doesn't mean that someone else can't with a similar skill set. The Steelers made it to the AFC Championship game with Stewart, and I don't think he was the best version of himself yet. I think he could have been more, but we will never know.

I prefer quarterbacks that are passers first and use their athletic skills second, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a balance of these skills without being an elite passer that can lead to a championship.

Don't forget the greatest Steeler to be let go Thaddeus Gibson. Never have we seen a prospect so hyped up amount to absolutely nothing. Close second although never a Steeler is Big Kat himself Katzenmoyer. Man there was a guy born a decade or 2 too late.

I'm not criticizing you, or what you wrote, I was just adding to that, and saying that people have forgotten how much we did run some of those same concepts with Stewart as they run with LJ, and Allen. It didn't work with him, and it hasn't really worked for them yet, outside of the regular season, but as I've been told on here multiple times , apparently the regular season doesn't count. See the Tomlin haters.

Agreed. Kordell was special as an athlete. If he could read defenses he would have been unstoppable.

Yep looking back they really didnt have a solid plan in developing him as a QB. The multiple changes at OC didn't help but if they could have melded his athletic ability with becoming a solid pocket passer. In a nod to what others are saying I don't think Kordell did himself any favors by being his own advocate. What I mean is that when you have that self confidence where you dont see that there are holes in your game that you can improve on. Not learning to read defenses because you have won games without doing that. It was a trait Ben had as well. I dont need to do that because you know I hold on to the ball to long. Ben could have achieved everything he wanted to in the NFL if he could have realized that he had "correctable" holes in his game, but then he might not have been Ben.

Give a QB and great playoff performer like Josh Allen to the 1990s Steelers (and 2001), and I'm convinced the Steelers would have been in the Super Bowl at least 2-3 times... I don't understand why you think MVP is a team award and the Super Bowl is an individual achievement... it's more the opposite!

I still can't believe they called a pass play on the goal line against Denver in the AFCCG, and of course Kordell threw an interception.

I'm old enough to remember some Steelers fans saying Tomlin was going to get exposed after Ben retired, they averaged ten wins a season after Ben left.
