I don't think Kordell would've been accurate in any era . He could've made himself a lot of money if he stayed in the Slash role.

If he would’ve entered the NFL at the peak of the recent RPO madness that took over the league for several years, he would’ve been in high demand.

2026 would be no different. Keep him in the pocket and he becomes less than average.

I love bringing up this little fact that annoys the hell out of Popcorn sycophants.....Kordell Stewart led the Pittsburgh Steelers to 2 AFC Championships and playoff wins under coach Bill Cowher.

This guy is late to the party, been saying that for years. He was too early.

Not saying he would be the best QB in the league but a team that would have tailored the offense around his skill would have gotten a lot more out of him.

Reading defenses was Kordell's biggest weakness... accuracy not so much. I recall many good intermediate and long passes to Thigpen, Johnson, Shaw, Ward, Burress, etc.... during the 1997 and 2001 regular seasons and playoff runs. Kordell was also one of the best QBs I've ever seen at absorbing hits when running, minimizing sacks in the pocket, etc.

Bottom line... doesn't matter how damn accurate a QB is... if he can't read a defense, pre-snap.... HE is doomed and will not win a Super Bowl!

Losing Chan Gailey after 1997 hurt Kordell a lot,our OC in 1998 was awful and Gilbride was a poor fit for Kordell in the 2 years after....He had a very good season in 2001 with a different OC.But unfortunately he lost confidence after his awful AFC title game in 2001, thanks to the spygate and it was over for him after that

Rumor I heard was that he played for the wrong TEAM!;) Like I used to say about Jeff Garcia, as a QB, he was a hell of a running back!

    Maybe.

    The upsides are listed here.

The potential downside would be that it wouldn't have been as novel. And more defenses would be geared to stop the freak athlete at QB.

That his ability to win with inferior QBs better than anyone else is greatly exaggerated and a myth, maybe started by Tomlin himself.

(See, I can play that game too).

I don't get why anybody would bring this this up and this is their first thought nobody said Tomlin was the only one that could do it. And we watched Kordell melt down in the big game play this game .

Tomlin could only win playoff games with Roethlisberger.

Here comes the name calling again.

Here comes claiming someone is off topic again trying to get people to stop posting when people make points you don't agree with.

Seeing you post is like watching something on a loop.

    Fun to watch for sure
I didn't like the NOD/SLASH friction Cowher could have coached that a little better/
    Still fun football games

He was certainly fun to watch.

He just was never able to master throwing the football from the pocket. Maybe in today's NFL, a team might have built an offense around his talents like they did with Lamar Jackson. We'll never find out, but that guy was so talented. I thought he was a stud just as a receiver alone. A better plan to use him may have yielded even better results.

We can list several guys into a similar category.

    Vick
    Cunningham
    Stewart
    Garcia (to a lesser extent)

im sure I’m forgetting a couple. But when those dudes played, teams adapted the offense to a degree but still wanted the QB to play a certain way.

it’s not universal but teams are more willing to change the whole thing for a Qb.

no way of knowing but I believe Stewart would’ve had a longer career as a starter.

At the height of Stewart's run with Pittsburgh, when fans were getting on him and his confidence was a mess, they had a game vs Flutie and the Bills. I want to say Kordell had lost the starting job at that point but whatever the case I remember just wanting him to watch Doug Flutie and absorb just how he approached football and shutting out the noise.

Agreed. Stewart let it all get to him. And there is no guarantee that another setting would have ended up any differently.

But I do strongly believe that like the 2015-2020 or so, when RPO was the flavor of the month in the NFL...Stewart's physical skill set would have been in high demand.

Thanks to the team, and coaching. Not because of Stewart.
