Yes I like him better than Mason .. I think 2 younger guys well 3 counting the practice squad behind AR is best for the Team long term..

I actually really liked him coming out of college could a good staff help him take a step forward ? That's a great question .

I would not mind it one bit if the Steelers signed Rasheed Walker and stuck him in at left tackle. Probably some cuts would have to be made to do that. Then Broderick Jones could heal up and be moved elsewhere on the line, or cut.
A Steelers coach (and I forget who) said long ago, “You gotta get em good or get em out”.

I just think Mason has reached his max , could he become a decent long term starter ? maybe.. I just see him a a bu at best or low tier starter ...I would rather invest in younger guys with higher potential..

As the game gets more and more complex the IQ is more important IMO ..KP a 17 ,Rudolf a 25 and Sam a 34 ..AR scored a 35 ..He is so much better at getting in the right play , sliding the protection, and knowing where the weak spots are to me these are the worst points of Masons game ...

Basically IMO him and KP can be out coached fairly easily by a solid DC ..

If they are serious about it they can draft the local LB/S Kyle Louis out of Pitt. If they really are looking at running some big nickel, he could be their guy....if it isn't all a fairy tail. He has a great football IQ and plays super fast as an undersized LB with terrific recognition and reactions, while also being athletic enough to hold up well in coverage.

They have the draft picks to take a shot on someone like that if they choose to.

I have been wondering about them possibly going down this path but your comment is making me say it out loud as a possibility.

Little Heyward parleyed his steelers shove yardage/tds into a nice payday in sin city. No reason now that Muth and Mount Washington cant share the snaps.

You really think most NFL teams have four receivers better than Austin? That's funny.

The team certainly miscast him as a starter, but as a No. 4 and kick returner, he had value.

They did select one of the best receivers in the NFL in the second round, but they were stupid enough to trade him.

I think this might be 2008? Although we did get production from Mendenhall.
    1. R Mendenhall (23)
    2. L Sweed (53)
    3. B Davis (88)
    4. T Hills (130)
    5. D Dixon (156)
    6. M Humpal (188)
    7. R Mundy (194)
    2022
    1. Pickett (20)
    2. Pickens (52)
    3. Leal (84)
    4. Austin III (138)
    5. Lil' Heyward (208)
    6. Robinson (225)
    7. Oladokun (241)

There's probably some analytical way to measure the impacts here. I do think that 2008 was the most disappointing draft I remember. Particularly because of all the hype around Mendenhall and Sweed.

And Sweed could get open. Although maybe other teams just realized it wasn't worth covering him because any target he got was almost certain to be incomplete (drop).

Mendenhall did give us 3 good years though (despite the lunacy we see pretty much any time he says anything post-career).

It's been a while, but I don't really remember getting anything of value from Davis, Hills, Dixon, Humpal, or Mundy.

2022...we got about a year and a half or so out of KP. Pickens gave us close to 3k yards...probably somewhat comparable to Mendenhall. We did get some production from Austin.

Since Sweed was basically a zero, I think 2022 gave us more from the first two picks. And I think 3-7 were also better in 2022 than 2008.
