Maybe in specific quantity....but I think the overall quality of play has been raised. I think that "good" now is better than "good" back when I first started watching football. And so is "bad". Like a "bad" QB now would be far better if they got dropped into the NFL 30 years ago or something.

In those misty days of yore, you had many college QBs filtering into the league that couldn't take a shotgun snap. That struggled with reading out basic pro concepts because their college team ran an antiquated system compared to the NFL. This is when sitting for a year or two was almost absolutely necessary.

Now, you can take the shrink wrap off almost any college QB and he will understand the basics of what is happening on an NFL field. Whether he can do anything with that knowledge or not is a whole other question.

But, there is another side of every coin. NFL teams are demanding more of their QBs than ever before. Still creates a situation where few can manage the realities of the position. I believe that NFL starting QB is the most difficult task in all of professional sports. Maybe NHL goalie?

 

And that’s why it absolutely sucks to be drafting in the 20’s every year when you need a franchise QB.

 

Many Qbs taken high in the 1st have sucked.
Hell here is a example 2021.
1st round by pick:
1. Trevor Lawrence: I guess you could say he's OK.
2. Zack Wilson : Is he even in the NFL anymore
3. Trey Lance: A backup somewhere
11. Justin Fields: LoL
15. Mac Jones: Backup now.
All picks from the 1st round.
We could basically do this for almost every year.

Are there more athletic Qbs now? Yes , but anyone that has watched how they are picked from young on now can tell You why, and it's way different than how they were picked when I was young. Today , mostly they pick the most athletic guy that can throw the ball. Nothing else is required, because You can win a lot of games from young on throughout college this way. Especially in Jr High, and High school where the D is so basic it's crazy compared to the NFL, and also whether people want to realize it or not, just the difference in the hash marks help this.

 

This is basically 80% of qbs today
Starts before college
What are they teaching them?
Better yet
What aren’t they teaching them?

 

Lower Expectations
When we went to school an A was excellent
Today’s A is equivalent to our C
Average
No need to learn
Have a smart phone
This has spilled into all sports
Thus
He’s athletic

 

Half these qbs today can’t even read a defense
Rather play xbox than watch game film

You are correct it is a crap shoot. We’re in QB pergutory now. Crazy how NE lucked out the way they did getting another one so soon.

 

The NFL is a joke today. It looks like schoolyard football. Football players today are self-absorbed, dumb, coddled and mentally fragile.

I suggest we even wait on judging him too quickly. Remember Trubisky, Tua, CJ Stroud, and many others have looked good for a year , or two before coming back down to earth. He maybe awesome, but I will wait, and see.

 

Actually they can find anything, but most learn nothing.
