You could tell in clips at iowa he was slow at the point of attack. Wasn't sure if they were hoping to use him as a big back goal line type RB but I don't see him fixing that to become a productive NFL running back. Steelers really blew another high pick on a player that was clearly not a top 5 round NFL player. He might actually have been a better 7th round pick or not drafted at all.

I really like yours signing. He's a great compliment to Warren.

I still would love to see a hard hitter in the 4th.

Which means Kaleb Johnson is a bust, which most knew on draft day.

I seem to recall “most” liked it. I was pretty lonely on my opinion, but OK.

But, even with that said I will concede ya can’t hit on All of em

    I have NEVER been wrong.

If you don't believe me, go ahead and ask me about any player that's ever been drafted and I'll tell you what my opinion was on him the day he was drafted regarding how he would turn out a year later.

Perhaps I should have said a poor draft pick rather than a bust at this point.

Also, I am not sure what you are asking.

I believe most of us said let's see. I for one didn't have a big opinion because I watch about two Iowa games a year , on a good year.

Well no, but I doubt Rico needs to become the defacto #2 WR like Kenny had to last year with our lack of talent in the WR room. He brings a good skillset and valuable experience (and quite frankly, is probably a better fit in McCarthy's scheme than Gainwell as I don't believe he's throwing to the backs as much as Smith did). We got him for less than what Gainwell got. Coming off back to back 1,000 yard seasons as a rusher and has at least decent enough chops in the passing game. I love the tandem with Warren and both are incredibly capable backs. Our RB room looks fantastic. We have excellent weapons there. Between Warren/Dowdle/Muth/Washington/DK/Pittman/likely WR draft pick, we are going to have a ton more firepower to work with in the playmaker department. Its nice to see.

    Nailed it.

McCarthy, at least traditionally, does not have his RBs get 90+ targets in the passing game. Likely because he does not favor Smith's preferred groupings of 5 TEs and 16 RBs on the field at the same time.

And Warren still got a good portion of the receiving work last season, had around 350 yards. Not far off from what Gainwell had. He’ll probably go back to getting the lions share there with Dowdle being respectable in his own right in that regard. They wont miss a step there without Gainwell.

That Gainwell was the defacto #2 WR was a problem as you pointed out.

Yeah for sure. I think its a great tandem. Both are good in space, one-cut type backs. One thing I appreciate about Dowdle's game is that he gets north/south in a hurry. He makes quick, decisive cuts, and has at least quality speed in the second level. Slippery enough through arm tackles.... He's just a quality back. The fact that guys like this are just hanging around makes the loss of Gainwell very palatable. I loved what Gainwell brought us last year, but he was very far from replaceable. Dowdle will fit this team nicely.

I like this signing more today. He brings some more needed power to the run game. We are going to wear out defense for sure.
