That they incorrectly judged their own status does not make their decision correct.

This is like the folks who argued that not drafting Tyler Linderbaum in the first round was not a mistake because the Steelers never draft guys in the first round after not attending their pro day. It was still a bad decision. They had the opportunity to fill a huge need with an outstanding player and passed.

Just because you think the Steelers never would have traded him doesn't mean they were right to not trade him.

Not sure Darnold would have opted to come to our "rock fight" offense over other comparable offers.

For the millionth time Khan wasn't going to sign a player to a big contract last year, he wasn't going to mess up his comp picks.

For the millionth time, just because you don't think he ever would have done it doesn't mean he was right.

    Cool.

But that was not the position I was taking.

We can take the Steelers on their public statements and their actions that THEY believe that they are close to being in a SB. All other decisions flow from that.

You can keep changing the parameters of the discussion to suit your position. That's fine. But it does not change the fact that in the real world, decisions are being made for other reasons.

I'm not changing parameters at all. I'm countering the nonsensical argument you keep making. In the real world, the Steelers made the wrong decision and overpaid a player who is no longer great as if he was still a DPOY candidate.

My argument is they made the wrong decision. That they foolishly saw themselves as being close to a Super Bowl does not make that decision the right one.

Maybe you shouldn't stick to such poor arguments.

You're almost there. I believe in you. You can do it. Take the next leap...

The wrong decision was the franchise's flawed evaluation of their own status. The Steelers view themselves as a potential SB contender. No team that views itself that way is trading a pass rusher.

If you were a SB contender, taking TJ Watt along for the ride on whatever inflated contract value you needed to agree to would be the correct decision.

Not my fault if you can not look around the NFL and see how EVERY team that thinks they are win or two away from being something hoard pass rushers like they are gonna get made illegal.

I also notice that you failed to counter the basic math of several posts back that indicates your monotonous argument about contract value holds zero water.

But, just keep changing the topic ever so slightly so you can tell yourself you are cleverer than the other children.

I would have never given 2 1st round picks for Crosby. Also, isn't he coming off an injury?

The difference is I have never argued that the Steelers were right to make a stupid decision because they wanted to do it, which is essentially the argument I'm opposing here.
