Might force the Bengals as a whole to draft an OT right away or another Offensive Lineman in Round One all together. Jesse Minter is a defensive savant while Cleveland and Pittsburgh still both possess Top 5 Pass Rush Units. Not an easy undertaking and doubly so considering that the Bengals need Defensive help like no tomorrow.

The other problem for the bengals is their no defense....They were on pace to be one of the worst defense ever in the first 3 months last season!

Losing 39-38(against the Jets!)and 49-42 in back to back week was all-time bad!

I don't and hope they miss the playoffs for a fourth consecutive season.

Contract is good, but 2 first round is a big ouch.

I'll also take Herbig and Sawyer over Crosby. And I'm not being bias. Those boys showed fantastic field play.

I dont mind this. The Ravens overpaid for this unless they win a Super Bowl with Maxx.

It would appear that the NFL and this place value edge rushers very differently.

Wait the Ravens traded two 1st round picks , and have to pay for a guy that had 7 sack, and 10 sacks in his last two years, and We should be afraid of him, and say how great the Ravens did for getting him, while Watt had 11.5 sacks, and 7 sacks in the last two years , and people say he's over paid, and done. Am I understanding this correctly???
    Make that sh!+ make sense.

I really find it interesting that Ravens have never traded a first round pick for a player in their 31 year history until now

I think getting rid of Harbaugh and realizing Lamar likely has another couple years before he starts to decline they are going all in.

Steep price. 14OA is a really good pick and honestly, I cant see them making this trade without figuring out an extension. He's probably got a good 2-3 years left in his prime, but they are going to lose some talent here soon. Big money going to be flying around

About the same sacks and $12M/yr less than Watt...

(Steelers had their chance to cash in and blew it...)

You’re forgetting the most important stat. PFF’s pass rush win rate.

Let's also not forget that when they discuss pass rushers they don't discuss that outside linebackers playing in 3-4 schemes have much more coverage responsibilities than 4-3 defensive ends, and the rush angle of a 3-4 OLB can be affected by lining up a tight end to that side.

I always picture some dude sitting in front of a monitor deciding on what a pass rush win is, with all their own biases and favoritism involved. Stats that rely on the discretion of a human's ruling aren't real stats in my opinion. Hell, TJ Watt has been robbed of many sacks in his career, including a clear tackle for a sack that would have given him the sack record all by himself. Meanwhile, Myles Garrett can fall in the vicinity of a quarterback with two players closer than him and he will get awarded a sack without ever touching the quarterback.

Some of these stats and rates are pure voodoo snake oil.

The Steelers signed Watt before the salary cap went up significantly and they didn't have to give up two first-round picks to get him. Watt's contract will be more of a ho-hum contract in 2 years when other rushers will be near $50 mil/year.

Fans throwing themselves off of the proverbial cliff over a big number and the unknown of performance are hilarious. Watt has been as much of a sure thing as they could have ever asked for to this point of his career as he forced opposing offenses to design their entire game plan and resources around trying to minimize his impact.

They ***** about not having enough great players, but are willing to get rid of Watt, Heyward, and Joey Porter as soon as they want to get paid. They ***** we have no quarterback, but don't want to take a chance on a young quarterback and pay them $20 million a year on a prove it contract....but top quarterbacks make more than three times that much and you can't win without one.

Great players get paid, and you can't win without great players.

    Yup.

Khalil Mack just got $18 million guaranteed. Almost like the NFL will pay ANYTHING if you can rush the QB even a little bit.

For YEARS....every Steelers fan site I visited complained about not having a really good CB. JPJ now exists and every fan site is complaining about how much he likely gets paid. Like it is their money or something.

I've heard SO MUCH about the Watt contract on this site. But....oddly enough....the Steelers have reams of cap space in 2026 and might not have quality FA's to spend it all on.

    Math. It works every time.

We all lamented that the team didn't have good cornerback play for many years. I was ecstatic when they drafted Porter and told everyone that they finally have a guy that can flat out cover. His numbers are outrageously good, but because he doesn't decide to play for ten million less than he is worth...."let him go" chants start. It's maddening listening to fans complain about stuff like that.

They are exactly the players you need on your team to win. Gladly pay them their money. They are the ones who are definitely earning their money and making teammates appear better than they really are in many cases.

You can't, but Watt isn't a great player anymore and it was easy to see coming. Even this past offseason, they probably could have gotten at least one first-round pick for him.

I don't know who is saying they shouldn't pay Porter. Of course, they should. He is great young player just entering his prime.

Steelers need another CB to go with JPJ. I would not complain at all if they went CB in round one, if he's worth the pick.
