If the Steelers built a new training facility where would you build it? It’s not like we have a lot of flat vacant land near the city. Just curious what everyone’s opinion on this is.

I would think maybe over near the Stadium somewhere or the other side of the Casino. I believe Pratt is building a big lifestyle development with a Ferris wheel in that area perhaps there is enough space for a new training facility over there. The other logical spot would probably be out near cranberry as there is a lot of vacant land out there and it is easy access to downtown and the major highways.

Plus many Steelers live in the North Hills area. Piatt Company is developing the 740 million Esplanada project. This is further west along the Ohio River not far from Rivers Casino.

They might just stay where they are if Pitt moves elsewhere

    That would double their size

Why would the Steelers build a new, larger facility though? The players don't want to use team facilities. Mark Schlereth talks about this all the time on his podcast. The NFLPA votes to lock themselves out of the free team facilities, and instead choose to pay for individual training facilities and personnel, out of their own pockets. According to him, the CBA bans players from being at team facilities during parts of the offseason because the players voted it that way.

Players could get unlimited access to workouts with professional trainers, meals designed for them by nutritionists and chefs, even childcare and kid programs during the offseason, all as perks for being under contract. I think there were other perks that I not thinking of. But the players association votes no every time.

Maybe... it's an 'if you build it they will come' type situation. But from listening to Schlereth this is a player driven situation.

    Idk

There is truth to what you’re saying but even during the season my understanding is these facilities are below standards in today’s NFL. In addition not every player on the team can afford all the outside training and nutritional help you are talking about. It’s great for the stars making a lot of money but what about the other guys?

I think it would be their desire to get away from the Univ Pitt as well and have their own facility. The thing is I highly doubt Rooney would foot the bill for something like this so I don’t know how it would get done, I assume probably some shared development with UPMC similar to what the Penguins did in Cranberry.

I don't think you understood my post. It's not that the team is locking the players out of the facility, it's that the players are locking themselves out of the facility. Those 'other players' you mention, need to vote smarter.

‘well that’s kind of foolish of them. Either way a new facility is needed. An F grade is pretty telling.
