Obviously Trey Lance is a much bigger bust than Pickett. With Matt Canada as his OC, KP still managed a winning record of 14-10 while with the Steelers. Although many of those wins were ugly 16-13 rock fights, he does have a winning record in his time here.

TBH, most of his wins were because of the heroics of the defense. Nearly half his wins were 4th qtr drives. He was clutch in the 4th but too bad he couldn't do much the other 45 minutes.

Just put an asterisk by this ranking. For being coached by the worst steelers OC in modern history.

The thing with Lance is the 49ers found out Purdy had more to offer so Lance never got any kind of body of work to go by, just 6 starts his first season. He had 5 TDs in that span to Kennys 7 in 13 games.

I have no doubt if given the same sample size Lance would have put up better numbers than Kenny.

The title said first round picks. Willis wasn’t a first rounder.

Not sure how anyone could put a pick at 20 over top 5 picks who didn’t pan out. Some of these teams gave up picks to move up and get these guys.

this can’t be repeated enough. Where is Canada now?

They had fire canada signs at volleyball games.

Yea with those tiny hands he would be harder to see screaming for roughing the passer calls every other pass play.

The last 5-6 years have been a disaster in the first round - after 90 it's been awful.

4 absolute busts (up to and including Broderick Jones) with Najee being a solid but "not-worth-a-1st rounder" exception.

He had an open opportunity in Cleveland and lost out because he was injured, again.

The Steelers were able to make Landry Jones look like a decent backup QB.

... with TJ Watt being a total beast.

That was my point, but early on I was flamed for it. When you are 23 or 34 years old in college playing against 18 or 20 year old inexperienced players your stats get skewed. I guess the Steelers didn't learn this on the Jarvis Jones experience.

That is why I warn against Carson Beck. He graduated 2 years ago and was still playing.

And missing on the 3rd overall pick is just so much worse than missing at 20. The difference in value in those picks is massive.

Not a Pickett fan by any means. And he's clearly not a starting NFL QB (maybe not even an NFL QB soon).

But he's probably not the worst pick at QB in the last 5 years.

Lance by far. Also, how about Anthony Richardson at (I think) 4th overall? Zach Wilson at #2?

Pickett sucks, but he only cost the #21 overall pick. In that context Pickett may not even be in the Top 5 worst.
