Trubisky was a solid plan? I saw this one a mile away. The guy threw 2 passes in Buffalo and one was an INT the prior year yet we thought he was a good option? He just got in the way IMO.

Old vets isn’t a solid plan, its admission that you don’t have the patience or coaching to develop young talent.

as far as investments. Lamar has been pretty damn good when healthy. I believe he averages 12-5 as a starter over his career and his record vs the NFC is a staggering 24-2. Good investment IMO. You always think a SB run is possible at the start of the season with the Ravens.

Now, our issue is the defense. We have no issue bringing in a Queen or a Ramsey but at QB we go cheap. It isn’t working out. Take a shot and show fans you really want to win instead of these cheap bets at the end of their career.

100% agree that we'd obviously rather have the QB problems of the Rats and the Bengals. Again, hard not to laugh at the Stains here for signing the worst contract in NFL history.

And since we've been running our "cheap model" after realizing our 1st round QB attempt was a total failure (last two years), we've been in the same number of playoff games as the Rats (but they won one game...sadly against us) and been in 2 more playoff games than the Bengals.

I'd much rather have either of those two QBs that are in our division. But both have had horrible injury histories.

I think we can probably consider Lamar's contract OK (won 2 playoff games since it was signed in 2023).

But the Bengals haven't even made the playoffs since Burrow signed his $275MM / 5 year extension in 2023.

The issues with Lamar are that (1) he gets hurt a lot and isn't in great playing form by the end of the season most years and (2) he just hasn't won in the playoffs as much as you'd expect from a multi-MVP...I think because the competition in the AFC is so fierce.

He's got to be seen as at least a mild dissapointment on that contract. Not unlike just Josh Allen. Or Ben post GB SB.

Welp that business decision by his agent work out great for his career. What's he on now? His third team? By the time his career is over he might be the first QB in the NFL to play on all 32 teams.
Take more chances in the draft because no one has figured out what makes a great QB.

I'd take Burrow in a minute, but that's the only one

    You say "bailed".

People who watched and judged Kenny based on what he did in the NFL (not at Pit) probably say something like "stopped throwing good money after bad".

Why do you think many team leaders appeared to be pretty heavily involved in recruiting an outside QB?

Kenny was really good at throwing back shoulder deep down the sideline.

But you need to be good at more than one thing in the NFL.

He is among the all-time worst QBs when in comes to throwing TDs. Certainly since UFA + cap.

Which is bad because throwing TDs is really, really important for QBs.

He also has a lot of trouble staying on the field. In part because he likes to blindly spin right into waiting DL.

You (correctly IMO) point to the fact that Canada sucks and we can tell that's true based on what has happened to him since he left the Steelers.

    But what's happened to Kenny?

He's now been played to a draw or outright outplayed by QB3s (or worse) on 4 NFL teams.

He got outplayed and benched because he wasn't as good as Mason. And Mason is a career backup. Then the Eagles let him walk because McKee looked better in games (and he only got to play because Kenny got hurt). Then he got beat out by Flacco, Gabriel, and Sanders in CLE. Finally, he got played to a draw or so by O'Connell in LV.

Re: Howard. Taking another QB this year mid to late round if there's someone we like is a good idea. Howard is 100% mystery box without even preseason games to judge him by. Pinning the future on him alone would be idiotic. Most QBs fail (same thing I told you when we drafted Kenny...which I thought was a reasonable bet when we made it). Howard will probably fail too. And for him "success" probably looks something like Mason's career. The chances he becomes Tom Brady are astronomical.

FWIW, I'd also be OK rolling the dice on Jones if the acquisition cost isn't insane. Kahn has been pretty good at trades (when they happen). I'd prefer Jones to bringing Rodgers back. But my guess it that Rooney feels the opposite way.

For sure he's a lot more valuable than Watson. But I thought his CAP hit THIS season is $40M

    Thanks!

You are right (and I was wrong!).

Looks like they'll have to make that big decision this offseason.

My guess is that they restructure him. Which I won't be a fan of.

But IIRC, one of Tomlin's first moves was moving on from Porter. Maybe MM does the same with TJ.
