I learned when the first edition of the book came out

In the King James Version, Matthew 1 contains the word “begat” 39 times in 16 verses.

Haven't read the bible since the 80's. Lots of brain cells were destroyed since then, via beer.

Yeah, I find it very hard to believe that we clean out the coaching staff and it all looks exactly the same. Even if the entire team came back 100% the exact same players, something's gotta play out different when we're not playing Tomlin-ball. We might still lose in the first round but it's got to be in a less humiliating fashion or these new coaches are total failures.

Just about zero chance of that happening

It may not be better but it will certainly be different

Hell we might even get a second receiver

Sure. But what if Rodgers still avoids the middle of the field. The Steelers win about 9 games and get stomped in the Wildcard?

Would it still be Mike Tomlin's fault?

Yeah. I thought I was being a bit snarky and funny.

I was not prepared for the original comment to soar over so many.

The blame would lie at the feet of the gummy worm owner "Run it Back" Rooney II

But if Bags were still here yes he would be...

You can't really expect to only give Mike McCarthy an older version of Aaron Rodgers and 17 weeks to get a fair evaluation when Mike Tomlin had nearly two decades to run things his way and many said it was wrong to change course.

That's a really unfair way to frame success or failure. There has to be some patience, particularly if there is a ton of change on the roster and a new quarterback that gets on the field at any point during the season. Fans can't say that Tomlin wasn't given a chance to turn it around with all the time he had as head coach, but McCarthy has to win a Super Bowl almost immediately for some to say it was a success or justified. Tomlin fans can't have it both ways.

I know you are speaking a little tongue in cheek, but it needs to be stated.

I’m really talking about the, for me, nonsense idea that Tomlin really put any limits or guardrails on how Rodgers played QB. There are age related holes in Rodgers game that far too many fans and professionals ascribe to “coaching”. The reality is Rodgers is what he is at this point and he displayed the same holes in his game across multiple teams and coaches.

That’s what I’m poking fun at. The idea that a reunion 8 years later of coach and QB is going to somehow build a Time Machine to past glory.

Clearly MM first year has to be judged on very different parameters than wins, losses, and draft position.

What if Rodgers doesn't sign with the team?

What if they sign Rodgers, draft someone, and groom them for next season?

Does that matter? Is that progress?

I think that's the problem. None of us know exactly how this is going to go and what we're going to see. It's the first unknown Steelers' fans have had in forever. We literally won't know until we see it.

I'm at least willing to see it before I completely condemn the whole thing. I'm hoping others do as well.

You’ve really taken my initial comments in a direction and depth with which they were not intended.

It was meant to be a bit of a lighthearted dig at the general idea that Rodgers was leashed by the outgoing regime.

Based on several of the responses, it didn’t land that way at all. I’ll take the hit for that and try and move the thread back to whatever it was intended to be about.

    I get that.

My last post was a question of what has to happen for anyone to give McCarthy a chance before they bury him and call him a failure? I'm just curious. You know he wasn't my first choice as head coach either.

I'm not trying to judge you or back you into a corner. That wasn't my intent.

Sorry if you took it that way.

I think it's about new blood than anything.

I like Rogers, but I want to see something new. I do feel they needs another quality person in the QB room though.

    No worries. We’re good.

For me, McCarthy has to back up his claims. He’s staked a position with his own words that he identifies and develops QBs. He’s got to do something forward focused on that.

Rodgers isn’t that. Or at least not by itself. If the 2026 QB room is Rodgers-Rudolph-Howard by regular season week one….thats a hard sell as “development “.

If it’s Howard or someone else under 30 and they don’t look awful…that’s progress. I think.

Howard needs the time to learn the game and the new system.A great article on the Coach and how he likes WR'S who can get open fast and can work the middle of the field .. Mike also uses route trees to create running lanes , Mike likes to give the QB multiple plays at the LOS and the QB has to know the best 1 and how to protect it.. AR is probably the best QB in the NFL at that right now ..

IMO him teaching Howard is a great thing ,I think the wasted spot is Mason ,I would rather he teach Skylar or another young QB ..

I'm patient enough to endure a losing season or two to get back to elite status in order to find the next franchise QB. Like I've said before... would like another Super Bowl by the time I'm 60. I'm 53 right now.
