Losing seasons in my lifetime... born during the Nixon Administration a few weeks before the immaculate reception and I became "Football/Steelers Aware" at the age of 7 in 1979.....

    1985: 7-9
    1986: 6-10
    1988: 5-11
    1991: 7-9
    1998: 7-9
    1999: 6-10
    2003: 6-10

The world didn't end after these losing seasons.

Losing season in 1986 got us some CB named Rod Woodson. He was pretty good.
Losing season in 1991 got us Leon Searcy, Levon Kirkland and Joel Steed. They were pretty good.
Losing seasons in 1998 and 1999 got us Joey Porter and Marvel Smith. They were pretty good.
Losing season in 2003 got us a QB from Miami of Ohio and 2 Lombardi Trophies.... he was decent, I guess.

Yes, they do. Steelers have been picking in the 20's and not getting very good results since 2013. Watt and Shazier were the only "game changers" we've had in that time. Jury is still out on Harmon.... he could turn out to be great. Meanwhile, teams like Rams and Eagles have been racking up with game changers over the last 10-15 drafts... with Top 10 picks.

It really is just that. Lose and get better with better draft position. That's how the Browns built their dynasty. It's why the NFCS is typically the beast division of the league. Just look at the Jets and all those high draft picks they have and all those rings they've won. The light has come on and I understand it all now.

Sarcasm Alert!!!!(green font doesn't work for me for some reason. User error I'm sure)

Rams and Eagles have done that by trades on draft day not by losing.

This has been one of the Steelers biggest flaws. The belief that they are ONE draft pick away from being a complete roster. Their institutional unwillingness to manipulate the draft in future years is confounding.

Examples of dysfunctional teams like the Browns, Jets, Raiders, etc., are always a bad one. It's very important to have a very good front office with a good vision and to properly evaluate your roster.

Also, as I've said before, the Steelers' 6-10 season in 2003 was a great thing for the future; otherwise, our last title would probably still be from 1979.

The last thing they need is a full rebuild

    That’s foolishness

Probably not a full rebuild. But they need to seriously consider Heyward, Watt, and Highsmith as good players to have on the roster, but not on the timeline this team will be a contender again. Anyone over about 27 is not likely to be on the next playoff winning Steelers team.

    I see whatcha saying but

    At this time
there are 32 teams contending for the trophy

if anyone involved with a team thinks other wise

THAT IS WHERE THE REBUILD STARTS

There are not 32 teams that are legitimately contending for the SB each year.

There are a handful of teams that are legit SB contenders.
Another cluster of teams that COULD be if they catch some breaks.
A group of teams that are almost there. Just need to keep working the path they've set out.
A group of teams that are working to get onto the path.
And a group of teams that can't even see the path to contention.

Steelers are somewhere in the middle. So are a lot of NFL teams. Those teams have a tendency to lie to themselves and incorrectly identify as teams in contention. They are not.

People bring up Browns, Raiders and Jets and their top 5 draft picks. If Steelers had those picks.... even the Popcorn Regime from 2014-2024 could have at least added 1 more Lombardi to the Steelers trophy case by overwhelming talent alone.

If Steelers had players like Sauce Gardner, Marvin Harrison JR, Justin Jefferson, Aaron Donald, Maxx Crosby, Jalen Carter, Devin White instead of Devin Bush.... hell yeah, they would be winning playoff games.

probably too busy to think about the steelers outside of watching a game here and there and reading about them in a small paragraph or two in the paper.

Just cause oddsmakers are bad at their jobs doesn't mean something isn't true.

The Steelers, who had better odds than both SB participants, were never a legitimate threat to make the 2025 SB. Nor were the Arizona Cardinals, who also were given better odds.

The Raiders were not even honestly trying to contend. Nor were the Titans. Nor were the Jets. Those teams were just trying to stop the bottom from falling out.

I see so many fans calling for Will Howard and unless you're Marino or Roethlisberger, a first-year starting QB is going to lose a couple of games for you by himself which would probably result in a non-playoff possible losing season.

Not sure how patient the Steelers fan base is to deal with that.

you as a fan says this
those teams definitely started the season to contend

do you really believe that any team right now doesn't believe they can contend?

yeah i dont like the idea of starting Howard week 1. No matter how well he does in TC and preseason. Regular season is a different thing altogether. Hes going to get exposed. If he shows something in preseason let him sit behind AR or MR or whoever else they bring in from FA

    TV wasn’t big early on

Art Modell was chairman of the league Television Committee from 1962 to 1993. At the time he joined the committee, the league was negotiating deals for TV at a price of $14 million. By the time of the last deal Modell was involved with in 1990, the league had made a television deal for $3.6 billion.

Current deal is 11 years $111B

Because even if Howard sucks some fans wouldn't mind the team losing to get a good draft pick in 2027.
