Boring Super Bowl. Reminded me of our SB win over the Seahawks in 2005 season a bit.

Yes we don't have a potent pass rush and the seahawks do.

in addition our o line (Fauntenu) needs to learn better technique (better coaching) or get replaced. Add in a Qb that is too old to move or take a few hits.

yes McCarthy and his staff have work to do, wont happen in a year.

It certainly doesn't hurt to play a team with a terrible o-line.

Yeah their GM is the best GM with the one in Philly in the last 15 years!

It was obvious that the Hawks had better defensive schemes and defensive coaches than the Steelers. How many times did we say we need to blitz more with not relaying on our Outside Linebackers so much. Seattle did with mostly with their defensive line and blitzed enough to frustrate Maye and company. Also the hawks were the 10 lowest price defense in the league where the Steelers one of the highest paid. Something wrong here.

I am going to disagree the Seahawks are emulating Steelers old method. The only commonality between those teams are tough defenses, which most championship teams possess.

Seattle's John Schneider more copied Howie Roseman's method of roster construction, which is being a strong GM, putting resources into the defensive line, especially the interior, and having enough talent that the Head Coach and QB don't have to be world beaters. They do not use the Steeler's way because they fire and get rid of underperforming coaches and QB's.

Both the Eagles and Seahawks ditched Superbowl winning coaches and QB's simply because they were no longer good enough. The Steelers never fire coaches, especially ones that live in the fears, and wait for them to move on.

The Steelers need to put more emphasis on performance and less on comfort/tradition in the way they do things, so we don't end up with another decade stretch of no playoff victories.

Seattle rushed 4 from the LOS. Played extra DBs behind in zone coverage. Mixed in a blitz off the corner from a player aligned in the slot. Sent a few A gap rushers periodically over the course of the game.

That is essentially the Steelers defensive plan that they admittedly backed into in 2025. They started trying to play man behind their 4 and a lot of single high safety. Due to the team being awful at it, they switched and ended the year in a similar spot to a ton of other NFL teams.
Pressure with 4. Zone coverage behind it. Occasional blitzer in the former of an "extra" DB (recently they had Ramsey and Elliot take on this role....Mike Hilton made a name for himself doing it). Then send a LBer or Safety through the A gap a few times to keep the OL honest (something the Steelers insist on doing with Queen).

The Seahawks just have the guys in coverage to hold up. Or the back-end zone rules are better designed and don't break down. Someone more well versed in the two defenses might be able to make that determination.

But, again, the Steelers have an extremely similar approach. They have just lacked the horses to be effective at it. Seattle likes to live in 2 high safety looks. Steelers didn't do that until Ramsey made the full time switch to safety. Then they played a ton of two high as well. Having only on viable safety for much of the year and a weakness at CB....means Steelers version of it doesn't work. Seattle has better players....better results.

That was the weird part about this season. One week, it looked like we could compete with any team. The next, we couldn't handle the Sanders-lead Browns. But then we got the familiar beatdown in the playoffs.

And at the same time, paid more than any other team in the league for those lacking horses.

    Ok. Has anyone disputed that?

Echols, Thornhill, Chuck Clark, Slay and I am sure I am forgetting someone...were all significant misses in player evaluation. Those players were not able to execute assigned coverages.

I suspect all but Echols will not be on an NFL roster in 2026.

That's exactly what I mean, they both know what it takes, and neither was willing to do that after a certain age.
All I'm saying is. Not many routes can be run in 2.46 seconds against a Defense. Therefore you are limiting the scheme of whomever is calling it.

From what I can find 2.60-3.06.
It's a little harder to find than Rodgers.

The belief that a coaching staff can come in and wave a magic “coach better” wand and the Steelers are suddenly a SB team is wild.

coaching can improve the team. There’s things that clearly need to be improved.

but despite the cash outlay, they’re still below average at key positions.

It will also be interesting to see if the new staff wants to continue to play single safety as the rest of the league goes with two high.

The only player making big money in the Steelers secondary is Ramsey, there is no comparison between the Seahawks secondary and the Steelers secondary because most of the guys are really slow.

Too early to crown Maye as the next Brady:

For all Maye’s excellence during the regular season, when he played well enough to finish a close second to Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford in the MVP race, his postseason was a hot mess.
Granted, he faced a slew of strong defenses in the Los Angeles Chargers, Houston Texans, Denver Broncos and Seahawks. Yet Maye failed to impress against any of them. Maye took at least five sacks against each opponent (including six on Super Sunday), fumbled seven times (losing four) and threw four interceptions. He had 86 passing yards in the Pats’ 10-7 AFC Championship Game victory over the Broncos, and only 60 through three quarters against the Seahawks.

Best thing Seattle did was jump on teams early in the playoffs and not turn the ball over.

but they also got a ridiculous call on their favor vs the Rams when Kupp “caught” a ball that he clearly never possessed.

I SERIOUSLY hope the Pats* haven't found their next Brady. But Maye's season overall was quite impressive as a 2nd year guy. Their offensive line shares some of the blame for the erratic post season and horrific Super Bowl.

I don't want to see that team in another Super Bowl for at least a decade.
