I have a couple friends like that as well. It's great having people in your life that would do anything for you when being there for you isn't the easy thing to do.

I just don't understand why so many people look at things like this as a race issue. When Tomlin was up for a contract, I was really hope that they would release him and take Demeco Ryans. Nothing at all to do with him being black. I thought he was full of energy, great poise, smart as hell and would make a great HC. I felt he would be the best guy out there that we could get that year. This year, we have McCarthy and I am on the fence for him. I also would have liked someone younger with a fresh outlook and a bright future. Again, what race they are does nothing to influence my picks or thoughts.

Every NFL team has the same situation when hiring. They are hiring a head coach and want the best guy for the job. That means different things to different owners. Race should never be a factor. I could go on a whole rant about it, but it is just like the draft. Some years the field is good and some years it is bad. But you can never control what race / gender / political leaning or whatever the field of candidates is made up of. You just have to pick the one the you feel will be the best for your team.

 

All it does is force a foot in the door. I am going to bet that there has never been an NFL owner hiring a HC that was influenced to hire a minority HC because of that rule. Either the HC candidate has what they are looking for or they don't. Since the hiring process is behind closed doors, you can bet that everyone pays lip service to the rule and hires who they want to hire.
