Or maybe he believes in work life balance and ignored work when on vacation.

It is weird that we didn't hear this from him right after Tomlin stepped down. I'm sure he contacted him directly to wish him well.

I think Rudolph has been hearing so much bad stuff about Tomlin that he wanted to get it out there. It has to bother players that genuinely liked and respected Tomlin to let him know that they have his back and that he has meant and will continue to mean a lot to them.

His whole departure was sudden and strange. Since he elected not to do a press conference and because it was after the season and reporters dont have access to the players, there has been very little said about it outside of the pundits.

Really does feel strange. Will be interesting to see if at some point in the future, Tomlin has some kind of statement on his time with the Steelers. Maybe he feels it's more appropriate to reflect later, after the sting from a 7th consecutive abysmal playoff performance has subsided.

I honestly think that MT believed he was loved by Steelers fans and the chants really hurt his ego. I’m not saying he wasn’t possibly leaving after last year regardless but I think the haste and silence make him seem salty. The guy simply stayed around about 5 years too long and it ended ugly.

If thats true it’s really petty because there are a lot of Tomlin supporters so he scorns them too to spite the boo birds?

He probably just doesnt want to answer all the questions to explain why he is stepping down, why he couldnt break the winless playoff drought, ect.

Maybe some of the most inciteful reasons I have read. After reading this it seems far less a mystery than some are suggesting.
    • Tomlin has always been intensely disciplined about messaging. He avoids emotional oversharing, keeps the focus on football, and rarely reveals internal conflict. A sudden departure without a statement fits that pattern: It preserves his image as someone who doesn’t explain himself to the public. It avoids giving critics or media a narrative to dissect. It keeps the power dynamic in his hands — he decides what gets said and when.
    • The silence can be a psychological shield. It avoids vulnerability and prevents others from seeing disappointment, frustration, or regret. When leaders hit emotional exhaustion, they often choose abrupt exits to avoid prolonged stress.
    • Tomlin may be prioritizing private closures and personal relationships with close players.
    • By not speaking now, Tomlin preserves the ability to control the narrative of his tenure and how it is regarded in the future. He will speak when the moment is more favorable and emotions have cooled.

It's not a diagnosis. It is an explanation of something basic. Dementia and autism are completely different things and using them lightly is, at best, problematic.

If you wish to colorfully claim that Rooney is unintelligent, by all means, go for it.

He’s an attorney I believe so he is definitely not dumb. He’s just a terrible NFL owner that seemingly strives for mediocrity. I wasn’t being serious with the medical term.

I get sensitive about that stuff. I have students on the spectrum. I get very protective of my students.

I think it's probably mostly the last bullet here.

I'd prefer if he had a PC. I'm a little disappointing that he didn't do an end of year presser. But I also don't think any real info would come out from a PC.

And now that he's waited this long, doing it would feel like he's trying to steal thunder from MM and the new regime.

Would suck if true because we wont get a draft pick.

It’s pretty interesting that Noll, Cowher and now Tomlin if he does it too, never coached again.

If he coaches again why wouldnt he get a deal like Peyton? He has the better resume.

You crack me up man, you go so overboard defending the guy and then you’re like why would that scrub be worth any draft picks.

I don't expect him to come back to coaching and not hoping we're going to get some picks in return that's why, for NFL teams Payton is probably held in a higher regard because he's a good play caller.

i think hes right, Tomlin was already disappointed in how the season ended. I think he really wanted to make serious playoff run knowing the end was near and its the reason for signing all these veteran stars (former stars for the most part). And the booing chants made him angrier, and betrayed, hes shown before that he can get angry pretty quickly, hes not as laid back as he wants people to believe.

im sure hell give interviews and talk about leaving, then theres his HOF speech, that’ll be interesting

I think tomlin is judged a lot differently by his peers than us fans.

If he comes back to coaching and is still under contract to the Steelers, there is no doubt in my mind a team will pay compensation for him.

I dont exactly remember the package that Peyton got but I think a first rd pick for MT would be paid by a team wanting his services.
