Good read. I know some poopoo his QB guru label but Im excited to see him work with Howard or even a draft pick. Would love to see what he can do with someone like Allar.

There will probably be a QB drafted this year regardless if Aaron comes back and what he thinks about Howard.

If Rodgers comes back I guess any new QB will have 2 mentors.

Never heard of the guy until yesterday. You are second person I've heard mention his name and the Steelers. Guy I heard talking about him wants the Steelers to get him but thinks he'll go before we get a shot?????????????????

I like this for 2 reasons:
    1. When you don't have an average to above average QB, you don't really have a chance at a SB. So you should always be looking.
    2. Hopefully, this means that he won't automatically write off Howard (or even Mason).

And my guess is that the song sheet would be pretty similar between the two of them.

Lots are talking him up. I thought he was Alabama weakness outside of the DBs. We shall see.

TBH, would prefer they hold off on an early QB until 2027 draft. Use the picks to fill glaring holes. CB, WR, safety, IOL, DL.

It is rare for a journeyman QB to go to SB. We came on so close to have Jarrett Stidham a starting QB in the SB. I'd have loved it. I rank Trent Dilfer as one of the biggest surprise QB's to start a SB. That was a true defense wins championships SB. I would have given Denver about a 1% chance of pulling it off. I'd have loved to see the odds Vegas would have bestowed on the game.

I saw that and heard about it some years ago. Glad to see it resurface.
A lot of good came from it.
He will have to adjust some as the game is different but for the most part, it is applicable.

I agree that the most likely outcome for both of these guys is journeyman at best.

But it does seem like MM is willing to accumulate lottery tickets at QB....even when he had a great starter.

And that's probably a good philosophy.

Why put all the eggs in one basket. It’s only one draft pick, they have 12 or 13. The 3rd rd would be an ideal spot, they have three unless they package some to acquire another 2nd.

This isnt Tomlin and his staff anymore, you have McCarthy and probably Tolzien who also seems to be good at developing QB’s. Keep drafting them until you find one.

If you think the 2027 QB class is good, just wait until you see how loaded the 2028 group is. :roflmao:

Hence I said not an early QB. 3rd round is fine.

Heres one for you, was listening to a story by Todd Haley and the Steelers were interested in drafting Mahomes but didnt want to upset the applecart.

Basically he was saying thats a tough thing to do when you have a QB like Ben. He pointed to the Packers and how they did it with Rodgers.

It’s a day two pick. I consider that early. 4th on is later to me.

But agree definitely dont use a 1st.

I keep waiting to hear that Scott Tolzien is getting the OC job. I am not sure what McCarthy is waiting on to name his OC. The OC position is where McCarthy can groom the next Steeler HC if he decides to go for a young up and coming Coach.

Not sure why McCarthy is waiting on OC; is there anyone coaching on Sunday that McCarthy and the Steelers could still be looking at for OC.

Has Scott Tolzien been brought in for an In-Person Interview yet?

LOL, I guess the answer is today for Scott's interview.

He was Alabama's QB last season. He struggled in his first game as a starter in a loss to Florida State, but then went on a tear that saw him throw 21 TD's to 1 INT (with wins vs. Vandy, Tennessee, and @Georgia) in his first 9 games. He had a quality first game against Oklahoma in a loss (28/42, 326yds, 1TD/1INT), but then faltered to end the season as some injuries saw Alabama with a VERY poor OL and zero running game to speak of. As teams started to pressure him relentlessly, his comp% and yards per game suffered greatly.

    First 10 - 279 YPG - 67% COMP% - 22 TD/2 INT
    Last 5 - 156 YPG - 59% COMP % - 6 TD/3 INT

Its important to realize that he didn't play in the second half of a game vs. E Illinois due to blowout, and didn't play the second half vs. Indiana due to injury (though they were on the way to getting blown out prior to his injury). Even if you take his stats over the last 5 games and condense it into 4 full games, he still only passed for 195 YPG (which is 84 YPG less than his first 10).

He's an intriguing prospect because he has a good arm, good command of the pocket, is a quality athlete, and was extremely gifted at reading defenses pre and post snap at the college level. His issues sprang up when he was under intense pressure (as any prospect would) as his OL and lack of running game got massively exposed by quality defenses late in the season. He's a polarizing prospect, as some people think he sucks because his last few games were rough (though, admittedly they weren't really all his fault) while the others who saw games outside of the SEC championship and the Indiana playoff game saw a guy with a ton of NFL potential (even against quality SEC defenses beating GA in Athens). His player comparisons usually range from Brock Purdy, to a better version (athletically and tool-wise) of Mac Jones, or even Tony Romo.

I think he is a good prospect, but not an elite one. He came out due to a poor QB class and likely will get drafted pretty high in the first round because of it. Had Dante Moore come out (head scratcher), there would be a shot that Simpson was available to us at 21. I don't see that happening now (too many QB needy teams to pass him up). He has a high ceiling due to his intellect and ability to read defenses, and despite some limitations in size, should be able to be a quality NFL QB if it all pans out. Even a borderline top 10 one in a perfect world. He's not as "safe" as Mendoza in terms of floor, but not far off. I think his ceiling is as high or higher than Mendoza's, as I think he fits more systems and has more of a repertoire to be a high end QB in the league. But what do I know? lol Hope this helps a bit.
