The last two of Rodgers' four MVP awards came back-to-back, 2020-21. In 2022, at age 39, he had a bad year by his standards. He missed the 2023 season with the torn achilles. As for McCarthy, you're welcome to hold whatever opinion of him you want, but I don't follow some of your reasoning. You're telling others to leave emotions out of it, yet your statements contradict some of what's out there. You say he doesn't own up to poor play, but he's spoken about how he made a project out of studying scheme intensively after being fired by Green Bay.

And from what I've seen, the claim that he credits himself for developing Montana is spin. He said he's worked with a number of great quarterbacks, Montana being one of them. That isn't a claim to have developed him. It would be be pretty silly to try passing that one off given he worked with Montana in Kansas City - after the latter had already won four Super Bowls, and while McCarthy was staffed as the Offensive Quality Control coach (i.e., not the OC, not the QB coach). I think when McCarthy speaks about working with Montana he's talking more about what he took away from what made him such a great QB than a role he had in developing him.

Rodgers last 2 MVP awards came AFTER LaFleuer forced change in the entire way the offense functioned in GB. The guys that are now leading GB's offense and did so in portions of AR twilight were the same guys he didn't want to play with after the last of "his guys" aged off the roster starting in about 2022.

McCarthy claims to have totally revamped his offense in his year wandering the NFL wilderness or whatever. I will grant I did not watch as much Dallas football as I did GB football...but it didn't look different at all. It looked like he bolted on RPO's to what he has already ran.

I think there are enough things I have seen over the years that indicate Mike McCarthy is a shameless self-promoter that says whatever he thinks people want to hear.

We can look at the entire hiring process, the only comments MM and the owner have made. And they all underscore and support an franchise wide mandate from ownership to maximize wins each season regardless of impact on long-term team growth. The Steelers ultimate decision makers are telling us that they believe you need to win as many regular season games as possible every season and any other developmental or organizational goal is secondary to that. There are 31 other peer organizations in the NFL. Identify the example of success with that approach. I can't.

The Steelers from about 2020 to the present have taken a path that no other NFL team I can think of or remember has used to produce a successful outcome. Fans decided that was a Mike Tomlin issue. The past several weeks have demonstrated, as best any one can see, that this was not the whole truth. The entire organization supports and operates on that philosophy. A philosophy that has yet to produce a championship team in what I can remember of the last few decades of the NFL.

If they start shedding veterans, prioritize guys under 25 or so on the roster, and aggressively add youth and speed up and down the roster....I might be willing to believe they are changing and shifting towards a revised/renewed strategy. What did EVERY NFL outlet say was the choice when the Steelers hired either McCarthy or the Field? Stay the course or change. They chose to stay the course.

But ask yourself these questions:
1. What is Mike McCarthy's team building philosophy?
2. What is the signature identity of a Mike McCarthy team?

I've been watching him coach teams for the better part of 20 years and I could not answer those questions with any tangible detail. Seriously, the best I got is back-shoulder fades. That's it.
