I'm not a huge fan of McCarthy essentially running it back with his boys, but I do like that it seems the staff has expanded slightly... and that we have some new guys to work with our roster. The defense being so bad has been a massive shame. I'll be interested to see how they perform with new heads in place.

That’s generally how it works. You hire people that share a similar vision and work well together. This idea of grabbing a bunch of strangers with potentially different views on how to do things and how to teach things is a recipe for losing.

From personal experience when I was hired to go and clean up a poorly run operation I started searching for people I knew and trusted and they knew and trusted me

That was always a winning formula

Looks like they are still bringing in Simmons to help with the defense. I heard that Fittpaldo said that McCarthy is going to be expanding the size of the staff. Welcome news :applaud:

Edit: Oops, I see the big cheese beat me to this report.

Definitely welcome news. It was a record screech moment last year when Rooney was asked about expanding the staff to follow trend and he said he thought we were fine.

This morning I must have seen three different articles (from reputable sources as I recall) that all claimed he'd been hired, only to add nonchalantly at the end that he was set to interview for the job today or tomorrow.

For what it is worth the only two officially on the Steelers coaching staff are McCarthy and Graham

Yeah, sorry about that. Time's been tight on my end lately.

I updated it a bit ago.

Well that sucks. Highly respected coach.

JPJ improved a lot under him. Pierre and Echols played well, too.

Constant communication problems and receivers left uncovered

I don’t think we lost anything

The communication issues were because of Austin and Tomlin. Once the players had a meeting with the coaches to clear the air about it, they started playing much better.

JPJ play improved dramatically. Pierre and Echols played very well.

Big loss. They will probably use Simmons in that roll now.

Unless they had that meeting after the season ended we are going to have to disagree

James Camden, can't find anything on this guy
Jahri Evans, current assistant O line coach for Saints ranked 25th for O lines in 2025
Tom Arth, Chargers Pass game specialist ranked 15th in passing yards
Ramon Chinyoung, Cowboys O line coach ranked the #21 O line

Patrick Graham, Defensive Coordinator for Raiders 14th in yards allowed
Jason Simmons, Redskins defensive pass game coordinator ranked #24 in passing yards
Scott McCurley, Packers Inside linebackers coach ranked #18 for the position

I get that it is a completely different team and mix of coaches, players and injuries. It has that feel of a Matt Canada hire to me.

    Saints 6/11, no playoffs
Chargers 11/6, Lost to the Patriots in the wildcard
    Cowboys 7/9/1, no playoffs
    Raiders 3/14, no playoffs
    Redskins 5/12, no playoffs
Packers 9/7, Lost to the Bears in the wildcard

Not exactly a winning history. I really hope that there is some good symmetry under McCarthy that elevates everyone. But we are not getting coaches with a stellar year in 2025 on their resume. Middle of the pack and lower is what we are getting based on 2025 results.

Cracks me up the way some of you have decided a larger staff equals success. The teams with the largest coaching staffs didnt even make the playoffs
