It's spin, and unprofessional at best, no need to say that even if it's true. They're trying to get the fans on board and some are buying into it it seems.

This is just my opinion based on nothing, but I think that MM was brought in to be a mentor to the next hiring process in a few years. I'm looking to see who the coordinators will be. Will he take these guys under his wing, coaches who they don't think are ready to be HC yet, and groom them for the job?

One thing that Rooney said that was interesting was along the lines of they liked how he spoke about who he would want to bring in as a staff. Since he really can't make any guarantees about who he could bring in, was it more of the philosophy of how he plans on working with them?

I wouldn't mind this approach if this is what they do.

With an experience coach on a team that I think should be at least in a soft rebuild (Rooney doesn't agree apparently), I'd love to see us try to hire some young hot shot coordinators. Then see if one of them is ready for the HC job in 5 years or whenever we're ready to move on from McCarthy.

This is the opposite of what I would have wanted with a young coach. There, I'd be looking for the next Dick LeBeau at both coordinator positions. Ex-coaches. Guys who were really good coordinators but failed HCs*.

Seems to me that this is generally how the Steelers have hired coaches (part of the reason Tomlin doesn't have a "coaching tree").

If we do go out and hire some hot shot coordinators, that would signal some kind of a change in team philosophy.

    * The exception here is Canada, who was pretty clearly a massive failure. In part because he's a horrible OC. And in part because we basically didn't have good players of offense when he was here.

I do find it interesting that he is/was not a candidate for any of these other openings in the NFL after initial interviews, not just the Steelers.

He never said that he never suggested that and it’s not what he’s thinking

He is saying he wants to be competitive every year

    I agree with that

I do not understand why you do not

I can imagine that his "one person" actually said that Shula was "da bomb!", and that Fillapony thought that meant he "bombed".

He said compete for a championship and wants to “contend” every year. Im ok with being competitive, we need that, but by signing these over the hill veteran has beens? Thats desperation to get a playoff win. You see where that got us. sometimes you have to give the young guys a chance to grow and you have to expect some struggling. But you do it with a long term goal in mind.

I still dont know why we didnt go after Darnold (and given him some of TJ’s money) That would keep us competitive and allow us time to find that young Qb to learn behind him.

I know you are not the best with technology but this isn’t hard.

Go to YouTube type in Art Rooney turn up your hearing aids and listen to the first minute of his press conference after Tomlin “quit”

Shula and Scheelhaase were supposed to be two of the hottest names this cycle now it looks like neither one of them will get a job.
