I like Weaver and also Harris from Chicago.

Raheem Morris tops my list but he might land a HC job again.

That would be the 2nd contract Zeke years. 5th, 6th, and 7th years with Zeke. So, yeah, giving Zeke the ball less times per game because he was getting older may have looked "'ran the ball grudgingly, like someone told him to'.

    Re: Press Conference.

I was broken up too as Mike opened up the conference. I recalled a day some years ago when I first found out he was a Pittsburgh boy too.
I had no doubt entertaining the idea that we was VERY sincere about coming here.
My thoughts as I watch Omar Khans face was, "with this coach as with most any, he will get you in the race but as in Green Bay, you have to get those players that impact the game" - I feel like he will coach the best out of players. That was a rep he had in Green Bay. I discount Dallas, I hate Dallas.

RE: Aaron Rogers. He said he would welcome him back. I feel like that's diplomacy. Roger's is 42/43 for the upcoming year. Perhaps he's thinking a bit like I mentioned before, as a 2/3 guy more for mentoring my QB.

I sat through Joe Gibbs introduction when he came back from NASCAR, I also had the privilege to have been present when Bethard. I could definitely tell that old Joe was not the same Joe and it wasn't as big a deal. I don't feel like that with Mike.

I wanted to focus on if and how he incorporates new ideas and methods into the game, something the Steelers have seriously lacked.

RE: Will Howard. I don't know what his ceiling is. Will showed up for the big game when his teams was there. That means something. How that translates to the NFL is a big different.

RE: Omar. I didn't like anything he had to say, which really wasn't anything. He has little to do with the Saints and the playoffs while Mike was the OC. At least they know each other.

Defense builds championships. Mike said a lot of good things, but I think aging and overpriced. DC's are pretty slim pickings currently. So I'm taking a pass till I see who he settles with.

Expertise, current staff, young and new ideas - 4 points he looks for in his staff. Staying on the leading edge of the cycle is important. Just hire the guys to fit the bill.

Mike talking about the players fitting the system. I think that's a statement about our player acquisitions. Mike obviously mentions mobile QB's... Will Howard carries a bit of that, there's better. Aaron not so much. I think they will bring in a least 2 QB's.

I like what he said about the WR's. I do remember GB wideouts lining up in different positions. So, I think a more versatile unit will be on the field come opening day and that helps a lot. I had heard Aaron mention this numerous times during camp. We were a little reluctant but did adjust some as the season wore on. But let's not fool ourselves, they will sit in the film room and they are going to like Metcalf and not much else. I think Austin has a chance.

But in general, that's a few of my thoughts.
I think he is dedicated, I think the desire is there, and I think he has expertise. Question is, can he? Can our front office supply him with impact players? (we did add a scout)
    Wins matter.

Here is the whole presser for those interested.

One thing for sure, media are one of the winners from this hire, they are going to like dealing with McCarthy so much more than Tomlin.

Does Madden actually do that? I thought he was just a blowhard on the radio. Or with a podcast, whatever.

He actually has credentials to show up at Steelers games and press conferences but Tomlin and many many players have treated him like scum so he no longer shows up. He seldom shows up for Pirates baseball games as well.

Didn't follow GB or Dallas all that closely so I can't say what the reasons were. But it's not like we haven't seen the same with Tomlin over the seasons. I mean how many times did we hear Rooney say 'we need to run the ball better '?

Strange, you're normally much more effervescent where he's concerned.

Definitely heard it. I don't know the time stamp. I got the impression that the OC (whoever it is) will help come up with the designs, but he'll be choosing them during the game. Not gonna lie, it sounded kind of refreshing to me. Of course, if he ends up sucking at it, then my opinion might change - but after years of Tomlin being constantly vague or coy about who's calling what play, it's nice to hear the HC being pretty transparent and assertive when discussing that part of his job.

I am expecting the same setup he had his 1st year in Dallas.

An older ex NFL head coach for DC, and a young up and coming coach for OC.

    2020 Cowboys
Mike Nolan - Defensive coordinator 30+ years NFL coaching Exp.
Kellen Moore - Offensive coordinator 2 years NFL coaching Exp.

Where are all the "Happy" people talking about Mike McCarthy's Coaching tree. Kellen Morre Head Coach in New Orleans right now.

This leads me to believe that Mike McCarthy has already hired (Wink-Wink) his DC and they have spoken about their 2026 defense.

Because the media still found him to be entertaining with his sayings, McCarthy is bland.

Weaver would be pretty strong. I like Morris' scheme (which is why I thought Shula and him would be a good HC and DC combo)... Harris is intriguing.

Jason Simmons appears to have an interview lined up. Don't know a ton about him other than he played for the Steelers and coached DB's and ST's for McCarthy in GB.
