Even Payton questioned his call after the game maybe it would be a better call if he had Nix, newsflash not every play call is going to be great or work that's why it's better to kick the FG.

    Got lucky?

    LOL

Darnold was a decent bet. I would have liked to see him here, I said so in Feb.,

    Dumlin did not want him.

he wanted a 42 yr old vet.

that is what MT likes, OLD QB's that he did not have to teach....... we know there was NO HERE for years that could develop or teach a young QB

Exactly my thought. I'm really curious as to who will be brought in as coordinators as there's a good chance that one of them is the HC within a few years. I know MM has a five year deal, but I wouldn't be surprised if his role is to bring in and mentor the future HC candidates.

Look at the quality of OCs these teams have. McDaniels and Kubiak are among the best in the NFL. Defensive HC's responsibility is to hire an OC that can put in place a 21st century offense and develop QBs. We've had none of that with coach Popcorn. Haley was a decent OC minus the bubble screens... but he also had the luxury of Killer Bs. Arthur Smith had 2 years of Wilson and Rodgers... vet QBs already developed with low playoff ceiling.

Offense minded HCs today think it's a Madden video game, and the younger generation actually think it's smart. We have watched two so called genius Offense HCs lose in the playoffs simply because they would not kick a field goal.

We saw Ben Johnson make some dumb fourth decisions in the Bears playoff loss to the Rams, and Payton, McVay did it in the championship games.

    Why McVay?

I mean, the rams were in a must TD situation with 4 minutes left in the game....They had the ball back with only 25 seconds left and 0 timeout. He had no choice in this situation

There is a reason Mike Tomlin won over 60% of his games. Until very recently if he had a fourth down in FG range he kicked the FG. If it was fourth and one at midfield he didn't go for it and give the other team a great scoring chance. No he punted it and made the other team try and drive 90 yards. Tomlin shortened the game and preached no matter what don't turn the ball over. The result was he won games with Duck Hodges, Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph, Justin Fields, Russell Wilson and 42 year old Aaron Rodgers. This style of play didn't work come playoff time because the other team had superior talent. But it did win more regular season games than it lost.

I'm old, middle-aged GenX and I think hiring a young HC with background in offense would've been smart.

All 3 of the NFL's top 3 offenses made their Conference Championship Games

Though 3 of the top 4 defenses made the Conference Championship Games too lol

Maybe the 4 most complete teams just made the Conference Championship Game.... Funny how that works, regardless of who coaches them
