No-one else wanted him, and we rushed to hire him, in fact we pre-determined him before this fake "process" began. There was never a process. This is all about familiarity, and poor fragile Fredo's comfort level, and "he's from Pittsburgh" hooey, none of that will matter when you're playing games.

Let's see how that works out, no-one wanted him since he got fired in Dallas.

I guess I am not understanding something, I am not in the majority of Aaron Rogers returning.
If Mccarthy is such a good developer of the QB position why don't we try to develop what we have or if a QB falls
in the draft who the mgmt /scouts like draft him. I am tired of check down football.

Time will tell, that is true.

Why was McCarthy fired from GB and Dallas?
When you read about GB, it says his offense got stale, less innovative, and predictable.

When looking at the Cowboys, it says the biggest reason was they couldn't agree on contract terms so McCarthy walked away after 3 consecutive 12-5 seasons.

My question is, what changed between GB and Dallas? GB claimed the offense had gone stale. The Cowboys were willing to keep him on a 3 year extension but MM wanted 5 years. Did his offenses become more innovative? Did he have better coordinators? Players? Ownership?
How did he go from, he can't win anymore in GB, to what he was able to do in Dallas?

    Time will tell indeed.

Well, he was fired from GB and Dallas due to offense getting stale, less innovative, and predictable... but a big piece of it (in both locations) was that he managed to not win in the playoffs. Kinda similar to the McDermott situation in GB, and just an overall lack of post season success in Dallas. He had good teams, just couldn't find a way to advance far in the post season after beating us in 2010 in the SB.

McCarthy didn't walk away after 3 consecutive 12-5 seasons. He did have three 12-5 seasons sandwiched in his 5 year tenure, but his final season in Dallas was 7-10. McCarthy wanted a better extension and Jerry Jones didn't feel like his 7-10 season was a "step forward" and conducive of a huge extension. Especially since he was 1-3 in the post season in Dallas. So they parted ways.

He was essentially the same guy in Dallas that he was in GB. A pretty decent coach that can win regular season games with really good rosters. His teams would somehow underperform in the post season despite having statistically high powered offenses. He's 11-11 all time in the post season, which is better than Tomlin, but he has a similar story to Tomlin in that his coaching career started hot in the post season an floundered as his career went on. 5-2 initially, only to go 6-9 since (with a lot of really good teams and QB play in there).

That 7-10 season was when he lost Prescott halfway through the season. That's not on coaching. He was a good HC in Dallas. He wanted a5 year extension but they were only offering him a 3 year extension, so they parted ways. Had nothing to do with under performing.

It’s odd that the hiring lacks fanfare. No news conference. Heck I’m not even sure if there has been an official statement from the team. It’s almost like this got leaked and the team is fessing up

McCarthy went 3-5 with Dak that season and 4-4 with Rush.

McCarthy is great when it all goes well. He has little answers when it goes poorly.

In 2017 when Rodgers got hurt, he went 3-6 with back-up QB. Then in 2018 the wheels came off early with a healthy Rodgers and McCarthy got fire. Lafluer came in and Rodgers won two more MVPs before whining his way out of town.

I am REALLY trying to see this as a thing that can further the overall goals of the franchise. I think that Mike McCarthy has forgotten more about football and specifically offensive football than all of us put together probably know. BUT...But...I can not shake the images from my mind of him stalking the GB sidelines with zero answers whenever it didn't go well. None.

And I know that many feel the same way about Tomlin. Fair enough. But look at Tomlin's record with less than MVP caliber QBs. Then look at McCarthy's.

To be fair with McCarthy, the backup QB in Green Bay was just awful and he was like 8-5 with Rush in Dallas. But for the rest,I take Tomlin over McCarthy even though I said it was time for Tomlin to leave

I wanted something new, but that won't be the case under McCarthy... The only positive thing is that McCarthy is an offensive coach, but of course the Steelers don't currently have the talent that the Packers and Cowboys had on offense, especially at the QB position... It's going to be hard to have a QB close to Prescott's level!

He was at Green Bay for a long time, messages do in fact go stale and a new voice is needed. That was my leading reason for wanting to move on from Tomlin.

While many of us wanted a reset and looking for a typical Steelers hire, young up and coming coach, Mike McCarthy and Mike Tomlin are polar opposites.

What he does share with Tomlin is a long playoff drought. Hopefully he can break that trend.

New coach after 19 years, and they find the replacment in 11 days after speaking to the bare minimum of coaches in person and fulfilling their own stupid rule, and they they hire MM right after...

    :lolol:

Yeah of course their was a process, this was done without any question of an alternative, all stitched up before anyone had an interview...

They still could have spoken to othe guys for future reference, even if you have decided you're handing the job to MM.

I see plenty of people are already falling for the PR campaign the team is running...I knew it wouldn't take long...

How much of the stale offense in GB was simply catering to Rodgers and what he wanted to run? I go back to the Steelers OC once saying "we won't run plays that Ben doesn't want to run". Roethlisberger reportedly didn't want to run a bunch of presnap motions. HOF franchise QBs wield a lot of power in game planning.

There's going to be a press conference on Tuesday. Weather may have been a possible factor. There's also a long form interview with Art Rooney II on the Steelers.com website where he goes into a fair amount of detail about the hire. I just read it and it's surprisingly interesting, at least so far as these sorts of interviews with corporate heads go.

I think You need to look at Lamar Jackson's record against Tomlin Steelers, and look at his tds to Ints, and fumbles. Believe me they hated playing us with him as HC. We will see now

I don't know the answer to that. Blast mentioned that growing stale could just be because of how long he was in GB. Stale can also refer to other teams get to know your tendencies on down and distance plays. It could mean a range of things.

There were also reports in both Green Bay and Dallas that McCarthy wasn't exactly a grinder, didn't put in the hours, and at times, his teams were unprepared. That is a huge red flag and concern.

I hope he decides on a young, energetic staff.

I will give McCarthy props for getting more out of Dak Prescott, a completely overrated garbage-time QB who is a playoff choker. Despite the offensive rank this last season, which was due to going against lesser competition, even with Pickens, Dallas got worse. Their offense was bad against defenses with a pulse.

I don't think McCarthy was the biggest problem at Dallas; that is more the dysfunctional sex pest owner whose hobby is being a GM.

McCarthy has a coaching tree unlike Tomlin, who maybe had an acorn.

I am more concerned about the hiring process by the co-dependent, cheap owner, and what it means for the future. McCarthy likely said anything to get the job, which means keeping a small staff and not spending on facilities, etc.
