What if McCarthy was the only option?

    yes - we agree

    I liked Mike personally.

He just did all that he could do. He reached his zenith, if you will

Rooney NEVER would have removed him.

    MT did the right thing.

    But ROONEY is the problem.....

MT just did what he could, what he thought was best. Which worked for a short bit here in Pittsburgh, and then... it didn't.

Rooney seems incapable of making the hard decisions. He's too stuck on short term success to see a long term vision. Ultimately it will damage this franchise moving forward. The game is becoming a young man's game rapidly in today's world. If ownership has their heels dug in knee deep in the stone age... its only going to harm the organizations ability to keep up with the rest of the league. We're in the beginning stages of that right now. I don't want to see it get worse.

    Is this

Is this why there are fans already ready to jump off of bridges? The man hasn't hired any coordinators yet that I'm aware of, and fans are figuratively picketing in front of the stadium already. Patience?

Not a single mention of Cap space, Draft picks, or No Dead Cap money. These should be huge bonuses for any Coach wanting to feel like he is getting a chance to build a winning team.

Is is funny, Can you imagine trying to sell the Cleveland Job.

Uh, yeah...... our most expensive player on the roster has an $80.7 million 2026 expense, the most for any player in NFL history, but you can't cut him because that would incur a $131 million dead cap hit for 2026. And..... FYI he didn't play at all in 2025, and only 7 games in 2024.

I mean in the context of a younger coach like say Schula or Minter. I think fans would have accepted a rough season or two until they got the roster and game plan they way they wanted it.

Virtually nobody saw the rushed Mccarthy hire coming, and the fan reaction was predictable.

I think this gang reaction is what we expected whoever was hired. Just on this site alone we have people arguing over Shula, Flores, McCarthy, and others. It doesn't matter, IMO, who got hired. The majority of fans would be screaming it's the wrong choice from day one. How I see it anyway.

It is not so much about McCarthy as about the process Art II and Khan used. Nobody was beating down Mike McCarthy's door to hire him; they could have interviewed more candidates, even if they didn't like the Rams coaches. This feels like more of the same.

We are back to 'Press Your Luck Game' Show that won't bring any Lombardis.

After Tomlin left, I picked out a new avatar, hoping to be optimistic for the future.

EDIT: I actually decided to make a change. It turns out we fans are the ones playing 'Press Your Luck' and Art II is all the Whammies.

I made the Whammies his face.

I don’t agree with that at all. I think everyone would have been happy with Schula. Most would have been ok with Flores too.

Mccarthy is viewed around the league as a dinosaur that hasn’t been able to win in the playoffs, and he was never going to be a popular choice with any team. Nobody else was going to hire him. He also now represents everything that the fanbase sees wrong about Art Rooneys approach to overseeing the team.

We will have to see how Mccarthy works out and who he brings in to key coaching roles.

If this is truly the case, then the Rooney's really need to look themselves in the mirror and soul search. They simply need to adapt and evolve.

What is the most strange to me is I did not type 'gang' reaction in my post.
