Is DAB an acronym? I'm not familiar, or maybe I'm dumb (which is a very distinct possibility), but what does that mean?

Art had some things to say yesterday.
In one case he mentioned fans were by large supportive.

Keyboard warriors are often outraged by everything, that much is true for sure.
But I am not sure it's just the keyboard warriors.
Those around the game seem to agree it is a safe hire.

I fall along the lines of that it could be a good move.
McCarthy does know QB's and does know about offense.
But the real pivot points for me are:
    - OC and DC.
    - The production from Omar/GM's - McCarthy and Omar do have past history (just a footnote)
    - How the draft and Free Agency go

At this writing, I don't think McCarthy hasn't inked the deal yet. It is still verbal to my knowledge.

I am aware that McCarthy has almost the same track record as Tomlin.
I'm not big on retreads but I think there is some differences. Tomlin was just too loyal to his cronies. McCarthy not so much.
I was also surprised that at the very least Art didn't wait till this week. That coaching tree of McVays which actually goes up through Shanahan to Bill Walsh is very good.

Experience vs Innovation. I lean towards the younger coaches.

Back in the day it was in a commercial for Brylcreem a hair cream to slick it back. The tag line was "A little Dab'll do ya"

A DAB in the cannabis world is a wax substance that you smoke from a DAB pipe which has a heater lighter built in.

To be fair, I kinda get the impression that it's at least conceivable that ARII may have said that no matter what was actually said or what the actual situation was behind closed doors.

Arr considers Tomlin both a professional and a close friend and there is clearly no personal animosity between them, so – like, even if there was some internal discussions and agreements that Tomlin should hang it up, culminating with the Rooneys (or more likely, others speaking on their behalf) gently encouraging an early exit – which I'm not at all saying is what happened, only hypothetically – my impression is that ARII would still have delivered the same exact sentiment: that he would have wanted Tomlin to remain as HC — even if that was a lie. It might have been, or maybe even almost certainly was, an honest sentiment, but it doesn't rule out the possibility that it wasn't.

I mean, what else was he going to say, "Geeze, it's a relief that Mike's decided to retire - it sure saved me the trouble of firing him early." At the end of the day, ARII strikes me as a somewhat overly nice, overly HR-department type of suit who will always try his best to say and do what he thinks others will regard as the "right" thing, and who will likely therefore often go quite far out of his way not to hurt or offend anyone, ever – but especially not those whom he considers an actual friend, like Mike Tomlin.

    Tl;dr:
Telling the media that he would have wanted Tomlin to stay - regardless of whether or not he or others in the organization actually did - would be congruent with ARII's general ownership style and pathology, at least imo.

I believe MM has inked a deal now but not a 100% certain on that.

I’m not big on retreads either but Vrabel is in the SB now. Just looking for positives at this point!

I like your more optimistic take and I think you've made a decent case for why the doom and gloom over this could prove ephemeral. The initial widespread fear and loathing over the McCarthy hiring will be quickly forgotten the changes translates into success. The problem is, is that could be a very tall order, especially with fans losing patience with the team or the organization, and growing more vocal about it by the year. Winning always solves everything.

Ironically, I think the worst thing McCarthy could do is end the season with 9 or 10 wins and with another one and done playoff appearance. If McCarthy brings in some fresh and respected coordinators, yet the team ends with 5-12 – so long as it looks like the team is losing but trying their hardest to win and not rolling over apathetically like we've seen in recent years, just the prospect of getting a high draft pick for the first time in 22 years might not be viewed as the worst thing ever, esp since fans know he won't be HC for likely longer than 5 years at most. McCarthy's experience and offensive-oriented philosophy could also be a valuable asset in helping to evaluate the potential of any QB talent in any draft where we might be positioned high enough to have more than one top 5 prospect.

Of course, ARII and McCarthy would likely prefer to just win, I'm just saying it may not actually be the worst thing for the franchise for him to have a rough first year. A 15+ win season would be awesome and fans would love McCarthy if that's what he puts together. Another mid 9-8 type of season though would be catastrophic for the team, at least with regards to the the doom and gloom stuff taking over.
