He's not going anywhere. We took him in the 4th round for development. Grads is the back-up. We don't cut him, we see if he can develop. If we get to the point that we need our 3rd string QB to perform for any length of time during the season, we are done anyway.

They won't say it publicly, but Landry won't be cut for Parker unless something unforeseen happens. IMO

I'm with you on jones. Seems like he needs to add some muscle, preferred to go around or slip underneath a block, which then puts him out of position. I actually expected more from him. Hopefully he'll shine more second game. Not sure why people are saying he did good? No sacks, tackles down the field and one shoestring tackle where he went underneath the block again and left the outside wide open. I was excited when we drafted him but maybe, there's a reason he slipped to us.....

or, maybe at this point it's more about Jones being in position to allow the defense to flow to the ball, etc. Sure, I would love to see some more splash plays from Jones. But, watch the game again. He's not overpowered, nor is abused. I think he's focusing on being in the right spot and doing his job by being in the right place at the right time for the defense as a whole. He did a very good job of that last night. Splash plays can come later. I want to see he has an understanding of the defense, drops well in coverage, knows his assignments, etc. He looked ahead of schedule to me.

Or, said another way, watch the game and I think you'll see Worilds trying to make splash plays and blowing some of his assignments. It was the opposite for Jones.

    but, time will tell...

Yeah, I don't get the vitriole for Landry Jones based on last night's performance. I know he hasn't been great in camp but other than the collision with Batch that resulted in a safety he didn't play that bad last night, did he? I thought he moved pretty well and threw some decisive passes. He is a rookie after all. You and Hines seem ready to cut him after one pre-season performance. I thought he showed better pocket awareness than JPW last night and was more decisive.

As far as the team performance last night, dare I say it? I thought we still looked like an 8-8 team.

we looked young. woods,rolle,brown,moye,woods,w.johnson,LSH,j.jones,wheaton,golden,arnfelt are looking like there's a lot to work with.

jones and JPW actually looked pretty good considering we have no backup guards.

we are going to miss heath a lot.

improvement from this week until next is what i'm looking for right now.

I don't take anything from this game it's preseason don't overreact half of these guys won't be playing during the regular season.

I understand what you're saying and don't necessarily disagree. But after a pathetic 8-8 season to allow a team to come into our house and pretty handily beat us is frustrating. Their first team beat ours, their second team beat ours and their third team beat ours. Our identity looked EXACTLY THE SAME as it was last year. A team that too often comes out flat and we finish 8-8. Our DNA appears to be the same DNA from the 2012 season. I was hoping for more. I know it's only pre-season, but last night should have set the tone for the rest of camp and pre-season which hopefully set the tone for the regular season. The tone was FLAT!

Typical Tomlin team, after 6 year going on 7 same old problems without any solutions on Tomlin's part, time to stop talking about what the fans already know and put some solutions on the field.

I'm basing it on a poor camp and a pretty unimpressive preseason game. But never said anything about cutting him, he's just got a ton of work to do and haven't seen anything yet to warrant where we drafted him. We shall see how he progresses.

Add the following to the list:

    Castro

    Woods

    Ike

    Wimper was wimpy

Who ever did not block the linemen on the punt

    Gay

    Batch

    A couple of other things:

Adams needs to not get bulrush so easily on pass blocking. Somebody will push him into Ben.

Jones needs to get a little NFL stronger a not take the such a long loop around on his rush.

Loved the zone blocking to the right side with Decastro & Gilbert, the left side not as effective.

just let Ben run the no huddle all the time.!!!! :lolol:

    We signed Fidel?? :beard::eek:

LOL! In all seriousness DeCastro did seem to have a nice game. The times I isolated on him he seemed to be handling his man/assignment pretty easily.

:this!: Which is what leads me to say that, unfortunately, I am decidedly LESS optimistic, than I was before the game.
For one thing, the PENALTIES!!!! Geezus... SMDH....
Seemed like the same old storyline, of us beating ourselves!!!
Also, moving the ball, but settling for fg`s... GRRRR:mad:...
All of that was WAAAAYYY too familiar!
I don`t know that they were neccesarily "flat", but certainly UNDISCIPLINED!
A few other random thoughts I had were..
Wow, Malecki sure makes me miss Legursky, and I was never a huge fan of Legs.
I always thought he was adequate, but nothing more. I had no problem letting him go, but after watching Malecki attempt to play center, I sure hope Maurkice stays healthy, or we are in deep poo-poo, and Pouncey`s knee/ankle issues give me worry, on that front.
I think I might have been over-eager to get rid of Batch, as well. Not that I was "eager". I liked him, just thought it was time. I never have liked Gradkowski, tho, and he didn`t do anything to change my opinion, last night. Nor did our other backup qb`s convince me they were better options than good ole reliable Charlie...
Also, just like last year, our defense seemed much better than our O... I was hoping that would change. As in, the O would step up their game. Didn`t see that.
On the bright side, I am much less concerned, than I was, about our depth at linebacker, D-line, and defensive backfield. I saw a lot of promise from those positions.
All in all, it wasn`t pretty. I was expecting a much better performance, on the offensive side of the ball, and was caught completely by surprise, that Bell had a sore knee.
At least it`s only pre-season, but loks like they have a LOT more work to do, than I previously thought...
    GO STEELERS!

    Same.. 10-6/11-5
Not happy with the special teams for sure, they were pathetic. Thought that the run blocking was terrific by the 1st teamers, can't wait to see Bell running behind them. Wasn't thrilled with the lack of a pass rush by the 1st team defense.
Overall a pretty lousy performance but it certainly won't give the coaching staff any reason to take the foot off the pedal. I expect a much better performance this week.

maybe not the foot off the pedal but the foote off the field and replaced with those active young quick ILB'ers I saw flying around out there. rolle, mcfadden, wilson and Williams. I was pretty happy with what I saw from them. especially rolle. he was everywhere the ball was. woods outplayed all the d-linemen. you play like that you get the start the next week. keep them hungry to play.

Agreed, except I thought Williams looked the best out of all of them. Not by much though, they all played very well. Your boy Rolle definitely impressed too..

It's unchanged for me. The game had no influence on my season outlook whatsoever.

Definitely. It showed that we probably have more depth at ILB than we do at any other position on the roster.

We are the same 8-8 team that beat that team with the same QB and those same receivers even after the refs tried their best to give them the game

    relax... It's preseason

Mine either. I could care less that the Raven and Bengals scored 30+ points and we only scored 15. I thought LSH looked good. I liked what I saw from Jarvis, Wheaton, Al Woods. I thought the starting OL looked pretty good against the run. The D managed to hold the Giants to a field goal after the ST debacle. Other than that, I was excited to watch football again and that is basically all I took from that game :smiley1:

what i got from this game was that they have a ton of young players trying their butts off to make this team.

they are and i say this with caution (see last year) loaded with young talent at wr. like i said i say that with caution. most of us thought their wr group was going to be awesome last year and for the most part they stunk. i like what i saw from Wheaton, Brown, Woods and Moye. im hoping Sanders and A Brown have solid years.

Maybe Plax going down is a blessing and will give one of those young guys a real shot. im also leaning towards them not bringing Cotchery back. i think we are in a time when you need athletic wrs and Cotchery is solid, but hes not going to set the world on fire.

on defense they also had a lot of young guys flying around out there. its too bad they had so many cb's hurt. not sure whos gonna replace Harrison. Worilds looked good at times as did Jones, but they both have a long way to go to fill those shoes.

all in all i took very little from that game. it was the first pre season game and they looked flat. that was the only real concern i had.

Are you saying this based off of camp? Because nothing from that game indicates JPW is outplaying Jones IMO. Neither were very good but Jones seemed to be more under control after the initial fumble. JPW has "0" pocket awareness from the looks of Saturday night.

:this!: ... also one should consider that game may have been the 1st time in 3 or 4 years that Landry Jones was under center that much in a live game situation. I saw improvement from Jones as the game progressed. As I recall, JPW didn't move around in the pocket much at all (if any). Neither really had much of a chance with the o-line that was in front of them.
