Not realistic for Shula to make a lateral move unless they paid him a ton of money more than the Rams.

I hope he doesn't hire a bunch of his old buddies from previous staffs, hire Scheelhaase and make him OC.

If anyone will come play for him… we will see… I’d love to see a young talented PGC come here, but right now, I think Passing Game Coordinator for McVey’s Rams is a better job than OC for McCarthy’s Steelers. He’s already getting HC interviews. He doesn’t need the promotion to get a HC gig imo.

The biggest worry I have is that cutting edge offensive minds aren’t going to want to come here. Heck, there’s a chance that McCarthy is going to want to call the plays… how is not calling plays in LA any different than not calling plays in Pittsburgh? And which coaching tree is going to give you a better opportunity to progress your career? Unfortunately, Scheelhaase would be an absolute fool to take the Steelers’ OC job. As much as it pains me, because he’s the guy I’d want… Davis Webb would be another good option, but same boat. Why leave Payton to come to McCarthy’s Steelers? What young mind is going to want to leave a cutting edge HC to OC for Mike McCarthy?

it’s becoming even more obvious that this team is just stuck in yester-year. It’s so sad to see.

At this point as far as I am concerned, they need to knock these hirings out of the park.

It'll be cheap nobodies and retreads, the Rooney way. Everything about this hire is safety and a comfort blanket, Art takes no risks, MM, Khan and Weidl have all pissed in the same pot before. There will be nothing groundbreaking, new and exciting in these hires.

I prefer to let things play out before jumping to your conclusions. We don't know what conversations were had behind closed doors. Maybe Scheelhaase himself feels he isn't ready for the jump to HC. With a team missing so many pieces it would have been a huge risk for him to come in and immediately win. McCarthy has a better chance to bridge what will be a rebuild process (regardless of Rooney's words) and take the heat that could be coming. A young HC would get skewered and possibly ruined under similar circumstances. Steelers don't want to become the Browns with their coaching history.

i'm still of the thinking of ,

    gruden OC
    munchak O-Line
    patricia DC

gruden and mccarthy would probably clash though, but man wouldn't it do wonders for will howard and whomever else we have. :smiley1::cool:

I am not sure whom McCarthy decided to go with.
I doubt he dominates his OC, unless things aren't working.
They most definitely will work in meetings to game plan.

But typically, he let's his generals do their work.

I think Kingsbury would be good under McCarthy.
I wonder if he would entertain McDermont?
They aren't my preferences, just names I think of.

It would still be a promotion, and it looks better on the resume as OC. Andy Reid doesn't seem to have a problem hiring guys to be his OC even though he calls the plays himself.

The guy Pelissero is talking about is Patrick Graham. He is an ex-player and current DC for the Raiders. He is only 47 years old and seems to be pretty well thought of. Several teams have asked to interview him for his services. The Dolphins asked to interview him for the head coaching position there.

Here's a pretty informative article on him. https://www.si.com/nfl/raiders/onsi/las-vegas-details-emerge-dolphins-pursuit-patrick-graham

Unless the Browns once again wreck those plans by hiring him as HC. Maybe Scheelhaase will have enough sense to turn them down?

    Why leave the Rams?

I fully expect Mike LaFleur to get a head coaching job after the Rams are done playing; leaving Scheelhaase as OC.

Why would they leave the Rams just to have the same job they will have with the Rams in 2026?

IF Rams dude and Leonard came as the coordinators; it would certainly help the HC hire seem less like a giant nothingburger.

My money is on Arizona to hire LaFleur.
