Simple poll to understand who thinks this is a good move.

Edit: Yes I spelled poll wrong and the title. My eyes are getting old apparently.

    Positives:
    Developes QB’s
Offensive HC. The offense should operate much better and should look completely different than from what we are used to.
Vrabel is a retread having success in short order.

    Negatives:
Has an almost identical playoff drought as Tomlin while having better QB’s.
Status Quo, feels the same as having Tomlin, just get above .500 and Art seems content with that.
Left younger more exciting coaches with fresher ideas on the bench that maybe gets the Steelers on the same playing field as teams like the Rams, San Fran, Chicago.

Basically I am at meh level of excitement. Instead of new and shiny we got boring and uninspiring.

But if he wins, develops Howard into franchise guy (or draft pick) and gets them over the playoff hump, all that other stuff will be forgotten.

This poll should have several reply options. It is not the best hire. Other men were open in Tomlin's long coaching tenure that clearly were better. I would rather go with a young OC.

I say this was a grade B hire. Not bad. Far from it. But I don't see grade A+ either.

I think the “develops QBs” thing is overrated with McCarthy. Hopefully we get a chance to see if the credit he gets for that is deserved or if he was made by a few good QBs as @MojoUW@MojoUW suggests. I think the latter is more accurate.

The postseason failures stand out to me. When someone goes 12-5 in 3 straight seasons and 1-3 in playoff games over that same span it certainly doesn’t give me warm and fuzzies.

His only playoff win in Dallas was against a team with a losing record. Also the cowboys were down by 32 points against the 7th seed packers at one point(48-16).McCarthy was 1-3 in the playoffs in Dallas even if they were favorite in 3 of those game.He is also 6-9 in the playoffs since 2011 and 3 of those win was against a backup QB(vikings) in 2012,a very weak redskins team in 2015 and a team with a losing record in 2022

Hold on. McCarthy significantly developed Aaron Rogers by implementing an intense "Quarterback School" session focusing on mechanics, release point, and conditioning during Rodgers' first few years as Brett Favre's backup with the Green Bay Packers. McCarthy refined Rodgers' throwing motion and lower body, transforming his raw talent into a polished, elite quarterback

    He deserves that credit.

Mike McCarthy was handicapped by a bad owner ( Jerry Jones ) who acts like the GM, and runs a 24 x 7 like public viewing spectacle.

Yet he was 12-5 for three years dealing with that boat anchor. And did it without a franchise QB.

Those are the facts. I'm not saying this was an A+ hire. I am saying this is a high floor hire.

Dak Prescott isn't a franchise QB?

    Ok then.

Not in my book. Prescott is a good QB who functions well when he does not have to overcome poor defensive performances. Say a top 8-12 type of QB in the NFL who has excellent skill players to work with. IE, Not a franchise QB type of guy. His owner loves him and over pays for his services. He plays poorly vs. the elite teams. Check those game books and circle back and tell me if you think he is a franchise QB.

This is exactly what I would do, hire an NFL experienced head coach with proven track record of coaching and game success, top notch staff, and culture and system implementation to help the players and the team reach for success and Super Bowl, especially the younger ones as the roster gets younger and those need to be trained and adjusted to the team and the NFL. And specifically on the offense with quarterback decisions and training.
Slam dunk hire. We're lucky he was available for hire.

He might be able to develop Qb’s but hes too old to be a coach least of all HC for the long term. I think Shula or Kubiak wouldve been better hires. Had the energy to create another contender or even dynasty. McCarthy? I dont think he can do that.

Dan Rooney passed in 17, thats when things started to go south. First they kept Tomlin around way too long and now they hire this retiree.

we dont even have a franchise Qb. And we have holes at wr and the defense. Its going to take a few years to get this team in position to contend.

That all sounds great. Unfortunately, instead of hiring whomever you're referring to, they got Mike McCarthy.

People bringing up Belichick and Coughlin to justify McCarthy hire are on some serious meth. Belichick was in his 40's when he was hired to coach Patriots after Browns. Coughlin was still in his 50's when he was hired to coach Giants after Jaguars. Both had never won Super Bowls prior unless you count Belichick's wins as DC with Giants in 80's. McCarthy did win a Super Bowl... but after that, like Tomlin... came up short in the playoffs time and time again... even with a HOF caliber QB.

    Great decision by the organisation.
Not wasting time getting personnel in position to be ready for the HOMETOWN DRAFT and all those picks.
    BRAVO.
