The Steelers are hiring Mike McCarthy

The more I think about this the more disappointed I am in Art and the hire. It has cheap written all over it. Nobody else wanted Mccarthy and he is likely going to take a discount to coach his hometown team

Schula, Scheelhaase or any other up and coming coach from a modern franchise would probably want more money and a bigger staff, meaning more expense.

We have all been tearing our hair out in recent years about the substandard coordinators and assistants employed by the Steelers and the blame has usually been laid at Tomlins door. I’ve long suspected that Rooney is the real issue, and I think this hire is yet another example of how he is holding the team back.

Everyone wants the next young genius, but first-time head coaches bust all the time. You’re betting they can lead, manage games, control the locker room, and adjust on the fly, without any real proof. I’m looking forward to a new season.

 

Not sure how this will turn out but change was needed some time ago. This broke the mold in who we hired as HC's since Noll. I am willing to give the man a chance and see what ARII envisioned. I've always felt that this team's ownership was the root cause of why we are where we are right now. A good owner with a goal to win rings would have made this change in HC long long ago. Who knows what went on behind the scenes for ARII to end up with this decision, but I'd like to think he sells if this goes South.

 

1. Tomlin has a better record.
2. Tomlin went to two SBs
3. Tomlin never had a 4 time MVP winning Qb.
4. Tomlin is Younger
5. Their skin pigmentation is a bit different.
So How are they the same??

 

I'm not talking about winning the Super Bowl, just being an experienced HC that knows how to win games.

As a Buckeye fan and Steeler fan, its not a bad move IMO. Good, quality NFL concepts tend to work at the college level, particularly when your offense is going to have elite skill position players (like they seemingly always do at OSU). It feels pretty similar to the Patricia hire that worked out on the defensive side. He gets to work with the likes of Sayin, Jackson, Smith, and Henry Jr. next season. Not a bad move imo.
