Whomever they were thinking of bringing in as HC, from the DCs, and OCs they looked at, but I don't see why they would go sideways. So it will either be past failures at OC, and DC, or people that haven't coached either before

They ran a 3-4 in GB, right? ...he probably has a good rolodex 3-4 coaches.

It appears that he likes failed HC's as defensive coordinators. Raheem Morris sticks out in that regard. I wouldn't be surprised at all if that were someone we are interested in. He is a career middling coordinator, though the system he runs is one that I am actually interested in with a Fangio style hybrid set. Jerod Mayo might be an option as well... I honestly don't know.

As far as OC, its anyone's guess. If he goes the CEO route and doesn't call his own plays, then I would hope that we consider a few PGC's from other teams. Nate Scheelhaase and Davis Webb being the best options to me. I can see Brian Daboll get traction here too. If he calls his own plays, we're screwed at OC... basically going to hire someone in a game planning capacity and it will likely be someone he has trust in. We will have the offensive equivalent of Teryl Austin..

Won’t be Shula, it’s a lateral move and while Scheelhaase would be a promotion, he likely wont be calling the plays as McCarthy has always done that.

But, this is one way I can get on board with this move. Sheelhaase reportedly blew the Steelers away in his interview but perhaps they felt he was too green to be a HC yet.

Maybe this is the Steelers way of grooming Sheelhaase to be the next HC after McCarthy. If thats how this plays out, if Sheelhaase is named OC, I’ll feel better about this.

I wonder if they could wrestle Jim Schwartz away from Cleveland. His defenses are successful everywhere he goes.

You think Shula goes to Browns?
    Or
Did the Steelers possibly offer a package deal to Shula and Scheelhasse?

Sheelhaase as OC, and Bryant Haines (Indiana's defensive coordinator) might be interesting. Bryant could also help them in the draft, having coached against and for the best players in college football. I know the head coach is not interested in moving to the nfl, but defensive coordinator might be. They run a hybrid defense (3-4 or 4-3) where one of the defensive lineman called 'Stud' plays DE 70 percent of the time and LB 30 percent of the time. Perfect for Watts/Sawyer.

How I am seeing all of this play out; hence why I haven't given my full opinion of the McCarthy hire just yet. All depends if Nate Scheelhaase will be brought in under him. As for the DC?! Good question indeed.

No idea in all honestly. That said, Daronte Jones wouldn't be a bad option to start out with. He was under Flores for some time and is a hot riser within NFL circles. Johnathan Gannon is another though I am not 100% certain about him. His defensive work in Philly was great but not so much in Arizona.
