Only at QB. Everything else will likely need to be upgraded. QB is a different beast. There is a chance we see Darnold vs Maye as Super Bowl QBs. QB position right now is in a lull. Advanced everything around Rodgers and maybe he can help win like Peyton Manning did in his last year with Denver, barely able to move his neck.

Go young everywhere. But Rodgers is the only QB they can use to play at the moment. If they have another option, cool. I’m just going by what they have now.

This is a pretty accurate assessment of Big Ben.

    More physical talent than Brady

Less mental talent and effort than Brady

    One is the greatest

The other is struggling to feel relevant

Darnold has a good chance to be the first QB from his draft class that includes Mayfield, Allen and Jackson to play in a Superbowl.

Yeah. That’s literally the exact same plan that the team has been trying since 2020. I think we all have seen enough of that stratagem.

No, this team needs to get rid of washed guys and go young everywhere but QB at the moment. They have to hit in the draft immediately.

They’re on first contract guys or early second contract guys all over offense.

And they are young on defense aside from like 3-4 guys. I think Heyward, Watt, and Ramsey are the only guys over 30.

What you’re outlining is either more of the same or just a rebuild.

Either way, it’s not that big a change.

    Extensive case you present.

I feel your argument might be with reality rather than anyone here.

At some point, arguing something I know and someone is not listening, it’s just a waste of time.

Look at the stats of AR 3332 passing yards,24 TD'S and 7 Int's...Pretty dang good with only 1 real WR and a horrible scheme that told Defenses they were scared to use the middle of the field..This draft has real talent at WR I have pointed out the 2 we need..

Don''t draft BPA , but move up and draft real talent at WR the 2 guys that are like Ebuka and can make a immediate impact.. if they are similar, and they are similar to Emeka he had near a 1000 yards and 6 TD'S, so if we added 2 real WR'S and changed the playbook no reason AR couldn't pass for 4500 yards and 30 plus TD'S ...

As a direct result less guys in the box to blitz and less for run fits this will increase our YPC running the Football and open up more space for YAC for the RB'S and the other pass catchers..

Plus AR is a great teacher and has a very high Football IQ.. I say go all in for real and be ready to draft a QB in next years draft if need be...My hope is the mental game of AR can get will and our young WR'S ready to lead our Offense into the future, if not plan B draft a QB but have the bullets so we are ready when we get the gun, or trade for a younger quality QB having weapons and showing commitment to the pass will help the QB and the attraction of a QB ..

You want to get "younger". How are you defining that?

The team does not really have that many players over 30: https://www.steelers.com/team/players-roster/.

If you want everyone on their rookie contracts...well that is a process that takes time. There are only so many draft picks per year. Until you can get enough of them onto the roster, someone has to fill the positions. And while I agree that Chuck Clark and Jalen Ramsey are not all that great...they are better than some 22 year old UDFA from Outer Nowhere State whose only real recommendation is that he is 22.

Are you arguing that the draft picks have not been good enough? That is perhaps something. I guess if Castro was a better player he could have gotten on the 53 man roster instead of bouncing around various PS all year.

Surrounding a broken down veteran QB with the maximum amount of talent has been the precise needle that the Steelers have chosen to attempt to thread for the entire decade so far. How would more of the same with Rodgers and McCarthy be any different? You have articulated the exact path the team has walked and then claimed it is different.

I am confidant to said without checking that he steelers have too many starters over 30 years old if we compare it with the rest of the league especially in defense...And the other problem is that the Steelers rely far too heavily on players like Ramsey, Watt, and Heyward.

What Offensive weapons did they draft for the passing game This is the youth they need not a practice squad RB ..McCarthy plus real talent at WR will make a huge difference...Change draft approach and move up and get the real talent , this will help the future...

They drafted Pickens and he failed out here for reasons that may never be clear. Possible that playing a Matt Canada offense just broke the dude.

They didn't draft any offensive weapons in the most recent draft because it was an oddly down year for receivers and they fell into multiple DL prospects that were perfect fits for their system. You can not build a roster overnight. It takes time. A lot of time.

It is a difficult tightrope to walk to lament the old and expensive defense and then also demand draft picks at the offensive skill positions. You only get so many picks per year.

Uggh....that is because the Steelers spend to the cap every season. With no QB sucking up the typically massive amount of cap space they tend to do....the Steelers paid some old dudes on defense. What else were they going to spend it on? No prizes for unspent cap dollars.

Interesting. Here is the list from oldest to 30:

    Aaron Rodgers
    Cameron Heyward
    Adam Theilen
    Chris Boswell
    Isaac Seumalo

    Andrus Peat
    TJ Watt
    Valdes-Scantling
    Jalen Ramsey
    Christian Kuntz

    Corliss Waitman
    Jonnu Smith
    Mason Rudolph
    Chuck Clark

The bold are my guess as to guys who stand a chance of being on the 2026 roster. What is the big deal?

That average age figure that gets tossed around? Do the math without Aaron Rodgers. Starts moving right back towards the mean. Weird. Math is fun.
